The previous task was closed without the explanation or solution. So I'm opening another one.
Please, add an ability to open each chat in separate window.
I still can't understand why previous was closed... Weird.
I just signed up on Telegram and installed the phone & Windows apps, and this is the first thing I noticed. I would be willing to contribute (code) to this feature if anybody can point me in the right direction... I will take a look through the repo, too.
While this feature is available on macOS (Version 2.27.51120 Right-click > Open conversation in a separate window), it is absent from the desktop version for Windows.
Would you please add it? Will support a ton of additional workflows. Thanks in advance.

need this feature!!!
This feature would be great to have.
I also would like to have this feature implemented
Need this feature as well. After using skype for many years this single feature that really missing
I need it too, and this month its a good timing since Microsoft is killing Skype 7
I agree, I'd like this feature. This is kind of preventing me from using Telegram too much because switching chats is so cumbersome.
This feature will be great!
I think people who migrate from Skype 7 need this feature.

Separate windows for each chat are useful not just for the already named reasons but also for hiding/showing selectively group chats or less important conversations.
It's been YEARS since this was opened. Is this ever going to become a feature? Other chat programs like Skype, LINE have this. You just right click on a contact and click open in a new window. Especially if the Mac version of this has it, not sure why the windows version does not.

The macOS version does not have this feature.
any update? (windows)
@iddq nope
Please add separate chat window feature.
This is a must. Some people were considering abandoning Skype because of this (myself among them). Please add/implement.
Separate chat windows are extremely useful. It's really nice to be able to see different chats all at the same time. Having to stop what you're doing, grab the mouse and click a tab, or stopping to click the Telegram window, and then type Control+1 etc to select a pinned chat is just stupid sometimes. Why require so much effort just so I can see one of my chat windows? Being able to open separate windows when needed just fits the way many people work. Forcing the tabbed interface just unnecessarily hobbles an otherwise great piece of software.
A good example are Chrome and Firefox browsers - they have a tabbed UI, and they all allow you to tear off a tab into it's own window. You can of course, also add a window back into a tab. It's probably the best current model.
Unigram allows you to tear off a tab into it's own window by hitting shift+click on a chat tab. Unfortunately Unigram is not quite as solid as the Telegram app. However, I'll continue using it until such time as the Telegram UI gets fixed (I consider it broken with it's tab only interface) or perhaps Unigram or some other app becomes the best option.
Upvote for this feature.

In fact, I think it would be more interesting to divide it into tabs

One of the main reason of having separate chats windows is to have many conversations open at one time, so you don't have to click-click-click to see all messages or write a reply. You can just Alt+Tab to a needed window and start typing. Or do only ONE click and start typing. Plus no need to scroll the list of chats and look for needed account/group.

My idea would be to open a specific conversation in another tab, that way it would be possible to browse them in the same way that you mentioned, just use the shortcut Ctrl + Tab. In my view it would be more functional than having many windows open
Personnaly, the main reasons i want this "feature" would be to be so i could have several conversations i could see at once. Without any required action to switch from one to another and ability to affect to each a different keyboard layout.
I mean, it's a desktop program. Why apply a view designed to fit the constraints from a smartphone.
If you like tabs, you already have them. Unfortunately they don't suit the way many of us work. If you have multiple chats open during the day as many of us do, then having each chat in it's own window works well. Not every chat needs to be responded to constantly, especially in a group chat with co-workers, but seeing the conversation is important.
When you have multiple such situations, how much time do you want to spend clicking tabs, stopping to hit control-T, or otherwise task switching? With a window per chat, you simply glance at that window and keep on working. With multiple monitors on my desk, that makes perfect sense.
Now if you want to add tabs to one of those windows, I could understand that. As I mentioned in an earlier post, modern browsers let you tear off a tab into its own window, and move/combine tabs in whatever window arrangement you want. I think that would suit everyone.
Unigram, as I also mentioned, allows you to detach a tab into it's own window. But because it's a UWP app, it's apparently limited in what it can do as far as task bar notifications, etc. All UWP apps suck (imo) for the same sorts of reasons; limitations imposed so the app can support various mobile platforms. Why force a crappy mobile UI on a desktop app? Just doesn't make sense to me.
https://github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop/issues/274 more generic way.
274 more generic way.
That sounds a lot like what I'm suggesting.

I believe that having both options would be functional, but as you commented: "It doesn't make much sense if we are going to use multiple monitors". I understand your point, I agree!
