Tdesktop: [Improvement] Mockup full window mode

Created on 19 Feb 2016  路  30Comments  路  Source: telegramdesktop/tdesktop

This is a proposal to use more efficiently using of space in TDesktop: widescreen window and maximized window. It also keeps the messages bubbles design and a utility panel always visible.

mockup

The right panel is a proof of concept and may have another design and content.
The idea was born from the last change in the alignment of messages TDesktop in wide window and comments about usability popup showing emoji, sticker and GIF's. This panel can be extended to the use of bots.

Cheers

Note: Some friends mentioned that a similar design is used by Viber desktop. It is a good reference guide.

:+1: Or use the other frame for a second chat, that would be awesome.

That is a really good idea! It would be amazing to have an ability to resize this side panel, so the chat itself would be desirable width, and the rest would be filled with stickers. Also, it would be cool to make stickers bigger on this panel, because the ones with some text on them can be hard to distinguish on current scale.

This'd also help the sticker panel work better on larger displays since it's pretty small; I'd like this.

:+1: I really like this idea!

Sure, I've shown the mockup in a group and they have the following ideas:

  • File picker
  • Search results
  • Hashtag use in a chat, group or channel
  • History of inline bot

You can go on thinking about it. The idea is to occupy the wasted space and keeping the bubble classic design that has generated so much controversy (I like the new design or something similar to webogram, but this can bring happiness to most).

Cheers

I'd like to see the new message design as an option, to be enabled in the settings menu

Yeah, I don't see why having both is impossible.

:+1: +1 Cool!
While the right panel is a little smaller and show other content such as stickers or GIF looks like a very good improvement.

:+1: +1. However, I think there should still be an option to hide the sticker panel. By default it could be on, but it would be nice to have an option.

Thanks, @diazbastian.

I've been reading the discussion over at #1587. The solution you provide here pretty much sums up what I wanted to add to that discussion.

Bigger screen real-estate is an opportunity to display more information on the screen. For a messaging app attachment windows, emojis, stickers displayed at the right side would all provide an easy way for users to have more useful functionality on their screen.
The current implementation just throws away valuable screen space.

Good, in 0.9.25 dev It has added a switch to use the old or the new design. Everyone happy!!

Add new models to represent obvious options that already has TDesktop. It would be great to see the contact information while talking with a contact, group or channel.
Thus it is greatly improved multitasking (search for all kinds of multimedia files, better management of groups, etc) and the use of space would be optimal to full window.

What do you think @telegramdesktop . These options are not as exotic and maintain the current functioning of TDesktop.

Cheers

Good idea.

Experimental feature in Telegram for OSX. (3-column mode for wide screens)

@diazbastian looks similar to what you proposed. Although it is experimental seems to work.

looks great :+1:

This is still a great idea. Let's hope the developer decides to care about this... because it's all about this

Maybe some day i hope :D
Very nice idea

Partially fixed in 1.0.30 :D

@stek29 Yeah and it works quite well, however, I would add two improvements:

  • Don't display the emojis/stickers/Gifs panel on channels (If the panel is visible close when opening a channel)
  • It would be cool to add an extra tab called "cloud". This would act as our own gallery and we could share content stored in our Telegram cloud easily in any chat or group (The same elements of the our "shared media" section)

@john-preston or @auchri I don't know if I should write other reports or follow the discussion here. Thank you.

@john-preston And if possible, please add option to enable / disable this column.

@Lazek You can do that by click on the emoji icon near to the send button.

@john-preston Yes, thanks for this, perhaps, it is worth to do in a simpler way, it's not immediately obvious =)

Maybe this can be implemented with float / dockable system: https://i.imgur.com/RPmoUjP.png

where you can put the things on the size dimensions and locations you want.
