Taiga: Nyaapocalypse

What happened?

Nyaa.se and associated domains are deactivated. Therefore the website and the RSS feeds have become unreachable. For more information, see the TorrentFreak article, and the statement of the moderation staff.

Are there any alternatives?

You can go to Taiga's Settings → Torrents → Discovery page, and either select one of the default feeds or enter your own. Note that:

  • You may not be able to download old torrents if they are still linked to Nyaa.se.
  • Most RSS feeds do not provide search functionality.

We have at least three alternatives now:

  1. Nyaa Pantsu:
  2. Nyaa.si:
  3. AniDex:

HorribleSubs has the following RSS feeds:

If you need a general feed from multiple fansub groups, you may try one of the following:

What happens now?

The former NyaaTorrents is gone for good. However, some people are working on replacements such as Nyaa Pantsu and Nyaa.si.

The immediate goal for Taiga is to improve support for magnet links, if possible. There's also a plan to check multiple RSS feeds (see #40), but I doubt this is going to happen anytime soon.

According to various sources the take down is intentional due to some
recent court ruling, the admin of Nyaa got paranoid as heck and took the
site down intentionally.

I'd post the image that is my source but I'm on mobile and can't right now.

Yep, that's the image. Apparently there is a clone in the works right now,
but its barebones and limited right now. No RSS feature yet.

we'll have a usable RSS feed link up soon
@HorribleSubs‏

~The link is https://gundam.eu/rss, not sure if it's official but it works with Taiga. Through the links are magnets, so torrent-client integration (I use qBittorrent) are limited.~

Correct links could be found in this blog post.

with nyaa gone, and the current need to check multiple rss feeds for new releases, allowing multiple rss feeds to be checked at the same time would be a big improvement, since many fansub groups still have their own rss (horriblesubs, asenshi, hatsuyuki, etc..)

for alternative uses, how about shana project? they have an open rss that works with taiga. Just the case is that it only works with last 50 releases, also on their twitter they mentioned that they're automatically collecting magnet links from HS.
source: https://twitter.com/TaigaAnime/status/859750161945305088

would it be possible to convert their search filter like it was with nyaa to have taiga search for releases for a title and parse them in taiga? atm for searching for titles the only option i saw was making an account on shana project and adding titles you're interested for a private rss in to have something resembling searching for titles

need to check multiple rss feeds

I think we can use an rss aggregator for now.

The only problem with magnet links is a lack of automatization support in torrent-clients and Taiga. Download immediately option pops dialog windows. Download location doesn't work.

I might add qBittorrent support via intermediate script and WebUI API but I need Taiga to support configuration options to call external apps with said cli switches and variables for it to work.

it should be noted with shana project you can follow your shows Per Season and set subber and other filers it is a highly specialized aggregator IMHO and get a personal rss you can then feed into tagia for auto downloading. shana uses http://tokyotosho.info/ as its feed source and the home page only list the last 50 shows add your personal rss will have no such limitation just that you have to follow each show and create a free membership in essence all you need taiga for is to read you personal rss and download them or you can use the rss feature built into your torrent client

it is mentioned in their help that personal rss feed shows up only to 50 items that werent previously downloaded ive checked it in case too. with personal rss you need to add all the anime you watch to follow list it gets troublesome if you watch +30 shows weekly. for new anime its enough to use the public feed imo

true but if you use a personal rss and set taiga up to autodownload there will always be 50 spot ready to go i used that way before and keep up quite well with all the shows i have watched https://kitsu.io/users/lordmage/library?status=all

if you have auto download then you shouldn't need more than 20 slots daily besides on public feed if you dl one of the torrents its replaced with a previous entry. honestly i wish there was a way to be able to search by title on shana project via taiga but i understand that it would be a fair bit to do so. also i like to see some random new anime pop up rather than just the stuff i watch its limiting and adding stuff to another list just to have all the slots available isnt for me i prefer to keep it simple

shana uses http://tokyotosho.info/ as its feed source

The main problem there is two fold. First, Tokyotosho uses Nyaa as its
main torrent source. So since Nyaa went, there went 90% of its torrents.
The second being that Tokyotosho is ALSO down right now. Hopefully
unrelated to Nyaa being down.

On a side note, some people on 4chan have been working on a nyaa torrents
replacement. They started off with a 6+ month old DB dump and to build the
site. Someone in one of the rebuild threads mentioned they scrapped nyaa
daily in case something like this happened, so they'll be providing them
with a more recent copy of the database.

I'll be following the developments of this, but if this does come to
fruition, I'd like to suggest the replacement project I'm following as the
official nyaa replacement in Taiga when it gets more capable (eg, torrent
file downloads and an rss feed).

Horriblesubs has officially set-up their RSS feed. I'd recommend using that RSS feed until a new public tracker rises up to replace nyaa.
You can find it on their main page(they have a tab at the top for RSS now).

for alternative uses, how about shana project?

Blocked in my country sadly. Just like those retards blocked nyaa just a few months ago. While we at it. Can you add socks proxy support to taiga?

nyaa.pantsu has a rss feed with a search function now

Good, one last thing it needs now is adding new magnet links and being able
to download torrent files itself. I'm not sure they'll add that so we may
need to have taiga support magnets instead.

Upload pull request was implemented with https://github.com/ewhal/nyaa/commit/6a43fb61476db8a3702cee94ea8df39290f92bbb they are now implementing Moderation and a rating system.

However we most likely won't get the old torrents to work again.

is there only "RSS feed for searching releases for a title" for nyaa patsu?
btw nyaa patsu is down as well :(

Well, there's a lot of traffic on the site. Last time we got statistics it was 6 million from Japan and as the second 600k from the US.

But from the commits (https://github.com/ewhal/nyaa/commit/e6d207c653228483188b390a3feb9d7635a8e6a1), the site is getting a full API. This is much better than using an RSS feed.

Regardless. The whole project is just developing the site. Who deploys it, is not yet clear, so we should monitor the progress but not commit to anything.

TOOLS>SETTINGS>TORRENTS
RSS feed for searching releases for a title:
https://nyaa.pantsu.cat/feed?max=500&q=%title%

is a temp fix that appears to work for most cases for me. change 500 to the amount of RSS items you want returned (max)

nyaa.si doesn't seem to work anymore because of cloudflare DDoD protection.

nyaa.pantsu.cat, nyaa.si and even horriblesubs.info are all protected by cloudflare. Seems odd that I'm able to obtain all the feeds with curl User-Agent: curl/7.46.0.

whatever that is (I have no clue) it is doing something that putting the nyaa.si link into taiga is not because it doesn't work. It worked on the 13th but not since the 14th so I don't know if nyaa.si changed something.

@gearan Cloudflare's DDoS protection makes RSS feeds unusable for non-browser applications such as Taiga. Nyaa needs to set up their page rules so that the JavaScript challenge is not required for the RSS feed. See #236 and #326 for similar issues in the past.

@koteq I'm getting 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable with both curl and Taiga.

@erengy seems I'm getting cache hits. There is a nyaadevs/nyaa repo by the way, could you create an issue in it, please.

Anyone got a workaround for "cannot connect to nyaa.si because of Cloudflare DDoS protection"?

@Tensai-Otaku
At the moment https://nyaa.si/?page=rss without additional arguments should work. You might also be interested in tracking nyaadevs/nyaa#69 resolution.

Yosh, Taiga's not been working correctly since nyaa was down, as in :
Everytime I try to put a new RSS feed and check the downloads available it will tell me :
"No new torrents found"
Tried the new nyaas, shana project, horriblesubs, nothing works
Help please !

@darkxxxx
Check your filters it may be the case.

UPD: run Taiga in debug mode it will show you why torrents aren't being selected.

Little late, but thanks, Koteq. Your solution for the issue worked perfectly! :D

@darkxxxx
You don't need the logs. Check the Torrents tab. It should have additional information about filters in debug mode. Use it to tune your filters to your needs.

;o;

I can check current torrents but not past torrents, did I input these new settings correctly?
upload 326

@diceman112 No, you swapped the settings. new torrents will show up for the nyaa.si link you posted. Searching rss pages thus far, and more generally any added paramters, will trigger cloudflare, preventing Taiga from getting the necessary data. I have posted a sort of workaround following the suggestions by @koteq .

So the settings would be as follows:

RSS Feed for Checking for New Releases:
https://nyaa.si/?page=rss

RSS Feed for searching releases for a titles:
https://nyaa.si/?page=rss&q=%title%&c=1_2&f=0

Edited for future reference.

i use this one for RSS Feed for searching releases for a titles

https://nyaa.si/?page=rss&q=%title%&c=1_2&f=0

its simple but does the job and doesnt trigger cloudflare.
With shana project i had more issues since their site worked mostly for new releases.

@Vesnyx ah I see will try Sileniful's feed

@Sileniful, it worked wonderfully, thank you!

@Sileniful Works perfectly fine with this one, thank you :)

also guys if you want only english subbed anime use this rss feed for checking new releases, last night i had some anime with french subs pop up so yeah :D

https://nyaa.si/?page=rss&c=1_2&f=0

these feeds with filters are easy to make too, where you see the drop down menu named "all categories" pick which one you want press the search button then right click RSS link and select copy link. then paste it in to rss feed for checking new releases. if you have any further questions feel free to ask im always open for questions.

does shana projekt, minglong and horrible have "RSS feed for searching releases for a title"?

if so can someone post pls.

btw nyaa.si feeds have ddos protection problem again :(

nyaa.si works if you have the bare rss (both new releases and search) if you can deal with stuff like getting anime with subs other than english ones use these
new releases
https://nyaa.si/?page=rss

search
https://nyaa.si/?page=rss&q=%title%

shanaproject works for new releases with their public rss feed
http://www.shanaproject.com/feeds/site/

if you want a search one for shana you need to make an account + add the anime youre interested in as following and use the private rss feed thats tied to your account

horriblesubs has only stuff for new releases from what i found
all resolution feed
http://horriblesubs.info/rss.php?res=all

@amboris also if you read the first post you have the exact same links, you just need to copy paste them

@erengy Don't know if it was fixed in the most current dev release, but size identification seems to be broken on nyaa.si as a custom RSS feed. This is what currently shows up the size column.

@Vesnyx Yes, it was fixed in 73a7327dc4c2eeeae856f7441143bf4a38899737.
