Same issue here on Mojave. Disconnect your Airpods. After I did that Sonic Pi booted and asked for permission to access my microphone. It seems that Sonic Pi waits for permission for Microphone access and, if it fails to get that, considers it a terminal error and exits. Something about the way Airpods are integrated in the OS is keeping Sonic Pi from doing its normal thing.

It might not be a permission issue since allowing access to the mic, reconnecting the Airpods, and rebooting Sonic Pi still throws fabulously.
