I tried adding the github bot into a shared channel
I got this error msg
@GitHub can鈥檛 be added to this conversation, so/githubwon鈥檛 work here. Sorry about that!
Would this intergration happen anytime in the near future?
Weird, I don't think this is a restriction on our part. We have successfully used this integration in shared channels 馃
@sanandnarayan could you post a screenshot of the error you're seeing and which specific slash command you're using?
Hello,
I have installed the application in one of our shared channels and I observe several "anomalies"
My colleague (from the other workspace) who is a member of the channel receives the message "can't be added to this conversation, so /github won't work here. Sorry about that!" when he types the command /github
When I subscribe to our repo. the channel name is replaced by #unknown-channel, even when I do a subscribe list, but my colleague sees the real names.
Finally, if I make an /invite @github I receive the message "@GitHub can't be installed to a shared channel at this time."
Can you confirm these problems for me?
What should I check or redo?
Thank you for your help.
Vincent
It seems to work well on public channel, not shared from our workspace (but that's not what we want)
We're seeing this issue too, but specifically only on channels which are both shared and private. /github works as it should on non-shared channels, and on public shared channels for us.
When attempting /github help

When attempting /invite @github

It's a bit of a deal breaker for us right now, as the channels were we want to use the github integration the most are those which are shared and private, would love to see this ticket get some attention, or at least to have it reproduced by someone who works closely with slack integrations so we can tell if there's some other issue at play.
We're seeing this issue with a shared channel that is set to public (which seems to run contrary to the rest of the reports here). /github works as it should on non-shared channels, but not on public shared channels.
Specific error when attempting /invite @github:
@GitHub can't be installed to a shared channel at this time.
hey guys, is there any update on this? I'm still unable to add github notifications to a shared channel. Is there a workaround to this?
Have the same issue, would be nice to know a solution for that.
We're also having the same issue within a shared channel. Interested in seeing this issue ticket gain some traction!
Hi everybody,
please make sure to always 馃憤 the original post to show your support of the idra. That will make it easy for us to see the existing demand.
I will take a look at this to get an understanding of the problem, but I don't have a ETA.
FYI - this might be bigger than just a Github app problem as I have the exact same issue with inviting the Zendesk app in private shared channels.
Hopefully, this helps your investigation!
Same issue. Channel is public in both workspaces, but could not invite the app with error: @GitHub can鈥檛 be added to this conversation, so /github won鈥檛 work here. Sorry about that!
Same issue here.
Also affected by this.
Wrangling with this earlier... there were a couple of things we had to do to get it working:
May not solve everyone's issues, but the above worked for us!
same
just ran into this problem now
this issue still happens
@wilhelmklopp @dennissivia is there any momentum on this issue? Any workarounds that you're aware of?
still an issue in 2021
New Github app for Slack released today, is this issue addressed?
