Simplewall: Temporary block, like in WFC

Created on 11 Dec 2018  路  1Comment  路  Source: henrypp/simplewall

Hi,

There should be a temporary block option, without adding a new rule - like in WFC ("Windows Firewall Control" by Binisoft). WFC has a button "Bock now and remind me later", this temporarily blocks the request, but no permanent rule is created. So next time, the same program is run, WFC will popup notification again.

With Simplewall if you close the notification (with x/cross), it still creates a new rule in "Blocked apps". This clutters the section and makes it too long. Better would be an option to temporarily block or ignore, so no new rule is created.

Also if possible:
Please add a search function to rules (WFC also has this).

Thank you.

I fully agree and have opted for this on multiple occasions. An "Ignore (for now)" option, without the creation of a permanent rule, is a must. If a user runs a program from a temporary location or just wants to test it once, it'll be in the list permanently. You might say that "Purge invalid apps" is just for that, but there are several programs in my list of which the executables are only in that specific location upon runtime, so they'll be deleted every time when using "Purge invalid apps".

As for a feature to search/filter the rules: https://github.com/henrypp/simplewall/issues/188
