When I click the X button on Windows, the whole program is closed. It would be useful if it is sent to the tray instead, and from the tray one can exit the whole program; or maybe at least, there could be an option to opt for that.

Obviously you didn't respond truthfully to the question "I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates", since this has been discussed in various other open issues. The solution is to start the application with the commandline parameter "--use-tray-icon". Which you can add to the startup command so it's enabled by default. Issues have already been filed to make this an option in the settings screen, so people won't have to use the commandline flag in the future.
Please test/implement the provided solution, and close your ticket, as it's invalid.
And next time don't waste people's time with issues you couldn't be bothered to investigate before complaining. People put time and effort into this application, time that might otherwise have been spent on watching Netflix or doomscrolling social media. They then provide it to you for free. The least amount of respect they deserve is for you to put in a little effort of your own to see if your problem already has a solution, and to not lie about having done so because you couldn't be arsed. What they don't deserve is for you to create extra work for them by opening frivolous tickets.
@ATablas this is already discussed here https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/1847 and more info you can find in the PR https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/pull/1676.
@jrial there is no reason to become so hostile and mean
@jrial
You're accusing me of lying while you don't know that I actually spent quite some time searching for a similar discussion, and all I found had to do with other OSes.
Anyway, the solution provided here is not so easy to implement for many users who are used to working on GUIs.
N.B. Next time, please make sure to avoid writing to people before sorting out your own social issues.
OK, in that case I apologise. I came here to find the solution to the exact same problem you're having, and within minutes I had my solution. So I find it rather surprising that you did the same and didn't find it. Given that a lot of users spam the issues on open source projects with requests for help on topics that are already well documented because they think other's time is a valid substitute for theirs, I assumed this was also the case here. If it wasn't, then I was in error, and owe you an apology.
Anyway, your problem is solved now, which is what matters.
I still think that the answer from jrial is very meanly worded. I think for such a large project, the team could be a little friendlier, even if the user does not know something.

Important distinction, before you start blaming the team: I'm not part of the team.
