Signal-desktop: Unable to join a group

Created on 18 Dec 2020  路  1Comment  路  Source: signalapp/Signal-Desktop

  • [x] I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates

First off this is different to #4594.

Steps:

  • Get a group invite link
  • Click it
  • It opens in your browser (Firefox in my case) and asks what app you want to open it in
  • Choose Signal
  • Press "Open Link"

Actual Result:

I click the button, nothing happens

Expected Result:

After choosing clicking "Open Link", focus should change to Signal and it should start inviting you to the group. (Either adding the group to the menu if its got no joining restrictions, or notify the group admins if it does have restrictions)

Screenshot:

Signal Version:

v1.39.4

Operating System:

MacOSX Big Sur (v11.1)

Linked Device Version:

Master: Signal-cli (v0.7.0) which does have v2 group support

Debug log:

"Loading..." (Seems to not be working)

Other notes:

  • The group I'm trying to join does have "Approve new members" enabled, but they don't see me in the "Pending group invites" list/s.
  • I am already in other v2 groups (Joined earlier when I my phone was the master device) and I am still able to communicate in those groups.

Signal Desktop does not currently allow you to join groups via link, but this is something we're working on. Thanks for reporting.
