Every now and then Signal Desktop would ask me if I want to update using a modal dialog, causing focus, window, and sometimes even Desktop (when using multiple desktops) switch! This is very annoying.
Whenever update is available, this will automatically happen.
Actual result:
Modal popup is shown, causing focus switch.
Expected result:
Maybe show a notification, in the standard OS notification area or the status bar. But never show a modal dialog screaming for immediate attention. Maybe do an update on next restart.
Even better, add the option to control updates behavior.
Signal version: 1.8.0
Operating System: Windows 10 x64

Can confirm the modal dialogue is annoying. It looks like there is a new message and blocks the rest of the UI. It would be sufficient to just display a message in the UI instead of a modal dialogue.
This is probably the best option to stop popups from stealing focus from other apps (like games), sometimes multiple times per day.
You might also consider reserving small bugfixes to be updated in batches, so that updates in general are less annoying. (Security fixes should still get pushed promptly, of course.)
holy shit the amount of times this popup has brought me out of a fullscreen game has brought me to delete this app altogether. who thought this is acceptable behavior for update notifications??
