While it is possible to mute conversations for the Android app, the desktop client does not offer such a functionality, yet. It would be nice to have similar abilities like one has with the Android app.

Here it is the pull request for the mute/unmute option

@liliakai, do you consider merging #907? And if not, could you give feedback about what you dislike?
Huge groups are quite annoying while they cannot be muted.
@liliakai Pretty, pretty, pretty please can we have this feature now????
see PR #1310
Is this getting any closer to implementation? I would love to be able to mute groups (instead of leaving them entirely) so I can retain sanity in my desktop environment.
Same here. I got multiple complaints by friends who want to mute their groups on desktops as continuous notifications prevent a good workflow. Please implement this. Otherwise the desktop version is great :)
There have now been two PoCs in two separate PRs, both closed with "we can do this better" type messages. Maybe it's time to just implement and iterate on _something_ instead of trying to come up with the perfect solution on the first go around and not doing _anything_?
We missed this issue birthday! Jun 12, 2016! 3 years and a few weeks by now. it has grown up to the second result on google for "_signal desktop mute_" :tada: :upside_down_face:
What is holding back this feature? I'm in a lot of groups but can't open Signal desktop without getting a message every couple of seconds. It's simply impractical to use when you also want to work or concentrate on stuff. The alternative is missing out on important messages and not being able to type longer messages with a keyboard while Signal desktop is inactive. Both situations suck...
Can we please get this feature? As @k4k said, let's just get something even if it's not perfect. I'm in the same boat as @sveeke in that I have to just close the desktop app at times because of a deluge of notifications that cannot be muted.
I've just simply stopped using the desktop app due to the lacking of this feature.
Seriously, while we can discuss the crossing of security boundaries that occurs when I have both work and personal messages coming in to the same Signal account, it's incredibly annoying to not be able to mute the persistent meme sh*tposting in my personal groups while remaining available to work messages.
Is there no progress on this? no eta? just, "we'll get to it eventually?"
Dudes, nobody cares about (y)our complaints, as you already noticed.
Stop using Signal for group chats. The UX of this part is horrible, you can not remove participants, sometimes messages get lost, the notifications are delayed or sometimes lost.
Find other messaging services who fit your personal or professional needs.
I use Rocket Chat, IRC and sometimes Matrix for the groups were we need some kind of privacy.
