Signal-desktop: Notifications fast replay the whole missed conversation

Created on 7 Dec 2015  Â·  13Comments  Â·  Source: signalapp/Signal-Desktop

when firing up the desktop client, it syncs messages and fast replays them in toast notifications. To me this seems a bit annoying :(

EDIT: but guys.... keep up the good work!!!

Same here. As far as I can tell this was never fixed.

What's more, in the left conversations list bar, the synced conversations are highlighted as if they entailed entirely new messages until one opens the respective conversations.

What about delaying the toast notifications for 1 second, and resetting this delay when a new message arrives? Like this the notification would wait for all messages to arrive and then show one notification for all of them.

I'm not sure if this was supposed to be fixed, but I still have this problem even if my phone and desktop now keep track of which messages I've read (I updated both the android app and the chrome extension)

The synchronized read receipts didn't solve this, because they tend to arrive shortly after the messages themselves, therefore a notification is still triggered. This is an issue on both desktop and android, which sometimes keeps buzzing like hell until all messages are received, even though they were already read.

This has gotten a lot better but I still experience this to some degree. E.g. just now when I opened the app, I got 3 notifications from messages that were already read on Android. There were ~20 in total.

Arch Linux here. Nothing has changed for me. I still get the notifications and the fast scrolling. Also I'm able to send messages while it's syncing and it ruins the order of the conversation.

Also, kinda related but the same happens on my Android phone. After having a conversation on the desktop client, it's synced on the phone one by one with annoying notifications every second sometimes lasting as long as 20 minutes if the conversation was long.

As of v0.17.1, I'm still experiencing this. After resuming my computer from sleep, I received a notification about once a second for about "unread" 20 messages, despite the very last message being sent by me.
Can we have this issue reopened?

Is this ever going to be fixed? It says it's "on the roadmap", but the issue is closed even though it's still happening? I can have some pretty long conversations on desktop and it sometimes takes my phone about an hour to sync them. The android conversations that are supposed to be synced on desktop are sometimes only synced in part, and sometimes not at all, but if they do sync, each message fires a notification (on both devices).

Does this issue encompass the replaying of tons of messages when Desktop hasn't been online for a while, or only the notifications from such? If the former, it's not fixed.

I think it's fair to re-open this.

I closed this because I think the remaining work is covered #659.

Signal Desktop 0.42.1, released to the Chrome Web Store today, has a loading screen which shows until all messages from the server are processed. No notifications are fired while it is showing. Please re-open this issue if you continue to see this behavior.
