Ring: Audio from/through Homekit app to Ring Doorbell not working.

Hello, hey hey.

I have Ring 2nd Generation and I can hear the person standing at the door but I cannot get the mic function working to talk back thought HomeKit.
I see that this has been updated and it should be working, but for me it doesn't.

Any help would be appreciated!

First thing to try is to make sure that you turn on your microphone within the first few seconds of the video stream. After about 5 seconds, the _return_ audio converter times out if it hasn't received any packets. If you turn on the audio right away and still don't hear return audio, then try setting "debug": true in your homebridge platform config and then posting the output from your homebridge logs

Those logs look perfect, no obvious issues with return audio. Can you try v9.8.0? Does the speaker work if you try it through the Ring app?

To answer your question, audio seems to be working fine both ways when using the ring app.
A weird thing I noticed today is that after I speak to my doorbell with the Home app no sound comes out of the doorbell but when i playback the recording in the ring app i hear myself talking! How is it recording the sound but not broadcasting it to the ring doorbell?

Did this work for either or you previously? Would you be willing to try downgrading to version 9.7.3 and see if it works with that version? Assuming a normal homebridge setup, you would downgrade by running sudo npm i -g --unsafe-perm [email protected].

I just downgraded using the command you gave and that did not fix the issue. I am running HOOBS and logs look nearly identical to the logs above. Thanks!

Thank you both for trying the older version. You can update back to the latest since downgrading didn't help. Unfortunately, I don't have a Doorbell 2 to test with (I have the doorbell pro), so I can't really dig into this further. The logs look good, and it sounds like the audio is getting to the Ring servers just fine since it's in the recordings. The only other thing I can think of is maybe the output volume level is set on a per-session basis and for some reason it's set to 0 for your homebridge session. The easiest way to confirm this would be for you to run the device discovery tool and post the output here. @Bullet55NL I believe your model is different than mine and @mrh270188. @Bullet55NL has the Ring Doorbell 2 and we have the Ring Doorbell 2nd Gen. These are different models. I believe this only effects Ring Doorbell 2nd Gen.

@mrh270188 can you give v9.8.2 a try? I can't guarantee it will work, but I did find one thing that Ring was doing when the mic is activated that I didn't previously have.

It’s working now!

Edit: I did purchase the Ring Pro and that did work on previous versions. I upgraded to 9.8.2 and the Ring Doorbell Gen 2 is now working!!!! Thanks!

@mdemarino that's great! I saw your note that it _wasn't_ working with 9.8.2. Had you not fully updated yet, or did you do something else to get it working?

@dgreif I thought I had updated but I was wrong, once the update and it actually went through and I rebooted my pi it worked great!
