Hi dgreif,
can you add a button were when called from homekit/homebridge save the mp4 file and maybe some options like ("folder": "/Volumes/video/ring/") where do you want to save?
Thanks
@divemasterjm this should be fairly easy after the new code is in place for audio/video streaming via ffmpeg. Can you give a little more detail on what you would like to have it do? Would you just want a 30 second clip of video when you turn on the switch?
Hi, it will be very nice to have some button who calls the recording, with that button you can create automations like if motion sensor is active then record. Or the one you mention, save a 30s clip every time button is pressed, also I mention some variables like path to save.
With this will be more than sufficient to have and operative video doorbell.
@divemasterjm I've given this issue a lot of thought and have decided that I am not going to implement it. While it is entirely possible to do, it would be the first time that my plugin allows users to do something that _takes away from Ring_. So far everything that I have built can be viewed as an _enhancement_ to what Ring offers. If I make it easy for users to start recording video without a Ring subscription, I would be encouraging that behavior and taking revenue away from Ring that they, quite frankly, deserve. The reason I own Ring cameras/security system/lighting is that they have an extremely fair price for their hardware and subscription. The subscription is an especially good price for what you get when you compare with others like Nest. I really appreciate your suggestions and will listen to any feedback you have on this issue, but at this point I just don't think it would be right for me to move forward on this feature.
Hi, I don’t see the point I just want to have some recordings just in live time, this is allowed by ring, on the other hand I bough a camera and I thing I can do what I think is best for users, like for example logic circle cameras, they have also a plan but you can download last day without any issue.
To add to @dgreif, I think adding this feature could put this whole plugin at risk of being blocked by Ring if it’s being perceived as circumventing the Ring subscription service to add in features you would have to pay Ring to get.
Thanks for commenting @jamesg311, I completely agree. I am here to bridge the gap until they offer real HomeKit support (whenever that actually occurs), not to skirt their service and cost them money. They have a great product and deserve to be paid the small amount that they charge for it.
I can agree in some terms but not in all if we have the technology I think we can do it, anyway, can you please help me to get my recordings when I have some movement or button press? I will modify my files therefore I’m responsible for this.

Hi - question on this topic, how does one access the ring cloud recordings via the home app? I can see snapshots and a live stream but I haven’t figure out how to see recorded video.
@TejasAntani recordings are not viewable via HomeKit. This _may_ be possible with HomeKit Secure Video (See #177), but I wouldn't hold my breath on that feature. For now, you can just use the Ring app to view recordings
