Heya,
I've noticed that qTox is wasting too much space and the lines are getting extremely small (for example uTox can fit 3 extra words before it changes line!) is there a solution for this or is this just the way it is?

IIRC PR #2013 had some stuff that helped with this.

I have the same "space issue" with 1.16.3. Except that there is too much space to the right of the time and to the right of the nickname.

@tr37ion I stopped working on adding themes support, but if you really want to have a dark theme you can compile from my branch: https://github.com/tox-user/qtox/tree/simple-dark-theme. It's a simple dark theme. It could use some more work, but since it's built on top of my other branch you can easily modify the CSS files of the theme (they will be located in ~/.config/tox/qtox) and make it look however you want without having to recompile. Here is a screenshot from that version:
