Pulseeffects: PulseEffects equalizer is blank
I had a system equalizer set up in PulseEffects. After an update, it seems to be blank, like this:
The About menu says it's PulseEffects version 4.8.2. pulseaudio --version output is pulseaudio 14.0.

Further info: pressing "Reset" at the bottom there allowed me to see the equalizer sliders, though they were all set to 0 instead of using the settings I had. However, due to past PulseEffects issues, I had a preset backup already saved ("Alex's output backup"), and loading that worked, allowing the equalizer to work again. Loading that preset backup didn't work until after using "Reset" though.
This issue would be a big problem for someone who didn't already have a preset backup saved. For me, personally, the issue is worked around.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can now, since I overwrote it with my reset -> load saved preset workaround. It now loads properly.

Maybe an old preset from previous version that does not have the bands set properly.

Unfortunately, I saved over both my presets after my workaround. For the record, loading them before saving over them worked, but only after "Reset", so something prevented them from even loading in the first place before using "Reset", meaning I suspect it wasn't caused by my saved presets, but rather something else that's saved between sessions that "Reset" affects.

I have the same problem, running Arch Linux 5.9.12. Also on pulseaudio 14.0 but with PulseEffects 4.8.3. Resetting then reloading the profile works for me but I need to do that every time I open PulseEffects, otehrwise I can't see the equalizer.

I'm seeing this again. The equalizer seems to be working, as I've tested by playing a bassy song and toggling the equalizer checkbox and hearing the bass get earth-shatteringly ridiculous. It's just invisible. Where do I get my profile, so I can send it?

I can reproduce on my system. I thought it was something related to my recent changes to the UI, but it's also happening to version 4.8.2 as stated by @AlexFolland. I'll try to debug and find a solution.

Found out why. It's happening when at the startup the equalizer band number is set at 30.
on_nbands_changed is called only when nbands is changed, but if it's 30 on the latest preset, it's not changed at the startup since 30 is the default.
We should use something to build the bands when the interface is constructed, independently from the signal changed.
I found also another bug when the bands are increased, the new sliders are dim and can't be set.
Equalizer UI needs some rework. I will try to fix this things in the next days. @wwmm you keep working on pipewire.

Resolved. Now a 30 band eq preset is showed at startup. But for the pull request I'd like to wait for more fixes.
@wwmm how can I request the merge also for the pipewire branch? I always did it only for the master one.

I also don't know. Just do the merge requests to the master branch and I will merge them to the PipeWire branch in the future. As you will see here https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/472#note_727213 I may have to do some radical changes in the current approach. So I would not think too much about merging things in the PipeWire branch right now.

Regarding the increase of the band number, it's not really a bug. The new band is not active and band-type is set to off because it was not used before. Therefore the band scale is showed as dim, but changing the band type from band settings will reactivate it.

I have the latest version of PulseEffects and it seems to be showing the equalizer again. Thanks! However, something looks a bit unusual, I think. Am I right in saying the lower part of these band level sliders is supposed to be blue, like the left side of the "Input" and "Output" level sliders?

@AlexFolland I removed it. I though it was not suitable for band gain since apo equalizer and other eq softwares do not have the colored part.

On white themes it does not make much difference to me. But on dark themes not having this additional color in the slider is strange. And as this color becomes quite visible in the horizontal sliders it makes people wonder if there is something missing in the band sliders. I think it is better to enable the color again.
