I confirm:

  • [X] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [X] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

The game hangs and does not launch, an initial configuration dialog appeared on first launch but does not at any point after. No further dialogs appear. Shutting steam will await for Thronebreaker to exit which does so after a few seconds but there is no way to shut the window down through the GUI. The game will remain listed in state Running in the library for periods of >10+ minutes with no further developments.

  • Killing any wineserver process causes the dialog box to appear, with the Thonebreaker shield, an error icon and a progress bar which completes.

I get a bit further when trying to launch the game. I get the CD Project Red logo, and then the Thronebreaker "loading" screen. No audio however. The game seems to crash after loading finishes (stuck on black screen). I can still open the Steam overlay though.

Delete all the video files inside /Thronebreaker_Data/StreamingAssets/videos/campaign/ and you will be able to run the game but without any cutscenes or introduction videos.

Someone mentioned a way to play the videos in this issue from mozo78 >>> https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/728

A simple way to make it works with the videos is to use <Link removed by moderator>. Seems to work pretty much flawlessly then.

Hello @ProfessionalismIsMyMiddleName, the link you posted is legally problematic and has been removed.

Hi guys any update here? The game is on sale and I'd like to buy it..

from what I understand there is this 3rd party patch (z0z0z) required, disable intro, steam overlay, noesync then the game works but crashes occasionally

@aeikum Unity seems to crash in this game with WINEFSYNC_SPINCOUNT=100 but it works fine with WINEFSYNC_SPINCOUNT=10. Maybe 100 is too high as a default? I didn't try other values but the Assassin's Creed games tend to freeze often with 100 while 10 seems to work fine.

OTOH, I seem to not be able to reproduce this reliably after some more testing but at least with 100 the game is just much more likely to freeze at startup.
