Powertoys: PT Run search-box sometimes not in focus

PT Run, when invoked with keyboard shortcut, sometimes is not in focus, even when using only arrow keys and enter key to navigate and launch results. This sometimes is a bit irritating.

can confirm that the procedure indicated by @joshuapeterson is perfect to reproduce this issue that I also have. What also happens is that after closing start menu, focus does not go back to PT Run and PT Run remains topmost without closing even when interacting with other apps. Even worse is that PT Run becomes unresponsive (unable to type text) unless I then press Win Z again twice to hide and show again

we need to know a bit more of a repro steps here. Could be a scenario we're not catching but without knowing what is happening, we can't debug the the problem.

for this, it would be what was in focus when the issue happened / what was happening right before. Example, i hit start menu then PT Run

Ok, so I was on the desktop, then triggered PT Run. Unfortunately, it was not in focus. No other apps were also in focus. Then I had to click on the search box and then use it.

Maybe task manager on my desktop stole the focus after triggering PT Run. ( I didnt pay much attention 馃槄 )

Also, even after exiting and retriggering PT Run, it still was not in focus.

This happens for me often. Here are steps that reproduces this everytime for me:
Press Windows key and release, start menu opens
Press Win + Space (my hotkey for powertoys run), run box will not be in focus, start menu will be.

I think it should be like that PT Run box should steal all the focus from all the apps (if it is possible). That could fix many issues.

Same focus problem, but not limited to the Start Menu

PowerToys version: v0.23.2
Windows build: 19041.572

If I type the PowerToys Run shortcut key, the PT Run search box appears, but it does _not have focus_. Pressing the shortcut key again hides the search box. The same behavior occurs for different short-cut key combinations. In order to get focus and complete a search, I must click on the box with the mouse cursor.

This occurs most of the time regardless of what other program currently has focus (Chrome, IDE, Windows explorer, etc.). Only sometimes will the window get focus immediately, but I don't perceive any pattern for this.
