Paper: Wither projectiles traveling through bedrock from the end to spawn

Created on 29 Aug 2020  路  16Comments  路  Source: PaperMC/Paper

What behaviour is expected:

Wither projectile skulls stay and explode in the end when the wither is trapped in the center bedrock block of the portal such as in vanilla.

What behaviour is observed:

When attacking the wither the projectile skulls can travel through the portal to spawn and destroy the surroundings.

Steps/models to reproduce:

Create a wither in the end under the portal so that it's main head is in the center bedrock. Attack it and randomly the projectile skulls travel through the portal to spawn.

Paper version:

This server is running Paper version git-Paper-158 (MC: 1.16.2) (Implementing API version 1.16.2-R0.1-SNAPSHOT)

Anything else:

I discovered this on a server running git-Paper-147 (MC: 1.16.2). So I then tested on my servers running git-Paper-158 (MC: 1.16.2)
Also have tested this on my 1.16.2 vanilla server and cannot recreate this issue.

In the pictures, left half is the end and right half is spawn. I had set mobGriefing to false so as to not destroy spawn for the pictures. Attacks from players have the same results as attacks from iron golems.

From my latest testing, this is still an issue on a Paper server

Tested in 1.16.4 Vanilla, Bukkit, Spigot, Paper. The most current builds I could find
All tests were done on a remote Liunx server with each test having it's own folder

Paper version git-Paper-320 (MC: 1.16.4) (Implementing API version 1.16.4-R0.1-SNAPSHOT)
No plugins, 2 tests were done

  • Copied over the vanilla test world, seed=0

    • Wither projectiles came through at spawn

  • Deleted vanilla world folders and created new world using a random seed

    • Wither projectiles came through at spawn

CraftBukkit version git-Bukkit-3eb7236 (MC: 1.16.4) (Implementing API version 1.16.4-R0.1-SNAPSHOT)

  • Created new world using a random seed

- No wither projectiles came through at spawn

Vanilla version 1.16.4

    • No wither projectiles came through at spawn

Can confirm, happened to my server as well.

Same with my server

Same here, Paper-189 (MC 1.16.2) - Any updates on this?

That just sounds like expected behavior?

This is new behavior in 1.16 and specific to paper. Doesn't happen on a vanilla server or single player survival.

re: @electronicboy

test against spigot/CB, I have doubts that this is one of our changes;
Also, 1.16.2 is unsupported, if this is an issue it can be fixed, but, it won't be fixed in your version

That's fair. I haven't tested in 1.16.3 yet. I'll test 1.16.3 and report back.

When we updated to 1.16.2 on our server, the iron golems began "pushing" the wither higher up into the bedrock when they moved in to kill it. You can see the wither center head poking up now if you look up top during the kill cycle. Normal killing without golems creates the same problem but less frequently.
Golem_Portal_Problem
This didn't happen the weeks before using the same golems to do the same job. We had to add 3 layers of bedrock underneath of the portal to stop this from happening.

Still seeing this on 1.16.3 Paper#202 @electronicboy

Confirm on 1.16.3 paper#204.

We understand the problem is still persistent. Please only respond if you have more reproduction steps or can no longer reproduce the issue.

test against spigot/CB

Please test on Spigot and CraftBukkit as requested.

This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has not had recent activity. It will be closed if no further activity occurs. Thank you for your contributions.

Last i checked this was still a thing, but i will check if i have time after working.
And i will also try to test this on Spigot

From the testing i did i cant reproduce this on a new world. Only in a excisting world.

What i did to test this:

  • Create a new world with paper(random seed).
  • Kill the wither under the endportal
-- no wither projectiles in spawn

-- wither suffecateds in the bedrock

  • Create a new world with paper(seed i use for my life server).

  • Kill the wither under the endportal
-- no wither projectiles in spawn

-- wither suffecateds in the bedrock

  • Create a new world with paper(seed i use for my life server).

  • Copy over the world_the_end folder of my life server
  • Kill the wither under the endportal
-- no wither projectiles in spawn
-- wither DONT suffecateds in the bedrock and shoot projectiles but the bedrock 'brake' the projectiles

  • Create a new world with paper(seed i use for my life server).
  • Copy over the world_the_end folder of my life server
  • Copy over the world folder of my life server
  • Kill the wither under the endportal
-- There are wither projectiles in spawn and destroy stuff
-- wither DONT suffecateds in the bedrock and shoot projectiles
