Ontology: Include validation

Created on 14 Jul 2020  路  8Comments  路  Source: OpenEnergyPlatform/ontology

Description of the issue

include validation and types of it like cross-checked with other models, checked with measurements in the oeo.

Ideas of solution

Workflow checklist

  • [ ] I discussed the issue with someone else than me before working on a solution
  • [ ] I already read the latest version of the workflow for this repository
  • [ ] The goal of this ontology is clear to me

I am aware that

  • [ ] every entry in the ontology should have a definition
  • [ ] classes should arise from concepts rather than from words
[A] new term oeo-model

@akleinau This comes from the factsheets, too, right? So I add the 1.1 milestone

Validation is a process.

Proposals:

  • Validation: Validation is the process of checking if sth works correctly.
  • cross-checked with other models: A validation where a model gets cross checked with other models of the domain.
  • checked with measurements: A validation where sth gets checked by using relevant measurements.

I would formulate a bit different:

I assume you mean checking against other models or measurements in the sense of comparing your own modelling results with results from other models or comparing with measurements, right? If you check with you use the other data in your model.

@jannahastings : What do you say as a native speaker?

Yes I agree -- cross-checked against other models. Or against the results/outputs of other models?

Sometimes models also produce results for data points that lie in the past, for example when their year against which they calibrate lies in the past. Then the first few projected years may 'in the real' world be past years already. Would we want to include 'checked against empirical data' too?

Yes won't hurt, even if it's not in the factsheets right now. Maybe propose that?

So:

  • Validation: Validation is the process of checking if sth works correctly.
  • cross-checked with other models: A validation where a model gets cross checked against other models of the domain.
  • checked with measurements: A validation where sth gets checked by using relevant measurements.
  • checked against empirical data: A validation where sth gets checked against empirical data.

ready to implement?

Since the discussion seems finished, I'll implement this.
