It seems that Mail.ru has sold Maps.me to Daegu Limited.
With the "2.0" version of the app released to Apple App Store, they have now migrated away from the custom map technology that was worked on this repo and have integrated Mapbox as their renderer.
With the move away from OMIM, the future of this project remains unknown.

The new iOS redesign landed on my iPhone today. They removed trashcans, water fountains and springs, the smallest walking paths, post boxes, fire hydrants, park benches, and that is only the few changes I noticed. There is also a new childish design. It seems that they are, just like every other of their competitors, focusing on "places" and not on creating a working app.

Another idea would be pushing and supporting the development of OsmAnd, for example by integrating the super-fast maps.me-renderer.
Map-feature-wise I think OsmAnd is superior, but maps.me has the easier/smoother UI.

@GhostInTheKayak On iOS, they lost the colors, notes and even custom names. The bookmark categories stayed with the names. Also there is no bookmarks import/export through Documents file sharing (in iTunes) anymore.

This is really bad news. I have been using Maps.me for several years to travel and it is the only working OSM-based, user-friendly app that I know of. We need open maps. If there is a solid community willing to take over development, I could see if I could find ways to support it.

The bookmarks have lost their notes??? You mean, the update just deletes the notes?
I have over 100 groups and over 3000 bookmarks - many with notes with all sorts of details.
For me, adding notes to a location is the main purpose of bookmarks.

Then better do not update yet (maybe they release the promised update soon), but try to export your bookmarks and work

Let's fork the project, create an organization, and keep Maps.Me completely open source. The new organization could also be part of an umbrella organization (like Software Freedom Conservancy for example) so that money can be collected for the benfit of the project while developers can focus on the development, without worrying of the bureaucratic part.

Just some purple UI is left from v11...

Version "12.0.0" was released on the App Store and it has restored Omim's renderer along with most of the previous behavior.
Export functionality is now back. I highly recommend everyone to make backups of your bookmarks.

I'm so happy they reverted almost everything. Green color had become quite distintictive for this app in my opinion, why changing it to purple? (or blue, I'm not sure about it XD ). Now the app has a green icon and purple window; but maybe it's me, maybe I'm getting old and becoming too demanding..

So who is maintaining this product now? If the Koreans are pushing updates to the App Store, then what is this repo still used for? Are they still using this?
I created a PR 2 weeks ago but no one has reviewed that yet so I am wondering what the current status of this Github project is.
