Nylas-mail: Select All fix: Selection via cmd+a or ctrl+a to select all threads, participants, text, etc

Created on 3 Jan 2016  Â·  23Comments  Â·  Source: nylas/nylas-mail

When using the Cmd+A keyboard shortcut, no visible effect is made to select all of the messages in the current panel.

  • It's persistent across restarts and with different accounts
  • It occurs both in the two and three panel modes
  • It occurs with the dark and light themes
  • It occurs both when running with debug flags and without, and there is nothing logged to the console

Select all is also non-functional when clicking on Select All (⌘A) in the Edit menu.

This is also replicable on my 2015 MacBook running El Cap and the same N1 version. Same exact (lack of) behaviour.

Runtime environment

  • Nylas version: Version 0.3.32-b11131d (0.3.32-b11131d)
  • Platform: OSX El Capitan, MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
  • Node version v4.2.1

Nylas, it's been 10 months...

EDIT: Found a workaround for Mac (might work for Linux.) Go to Preferences > Shortcuts > Selection > Select All Conversations. Mine was set to CMD+A. I clicked on it to edit and typed ⌘A. Select All now works correctly.

I can report this also occurs under Linux with Ctrl+A.

@mbilker I've updated the issues title to reflect the Linux issue too

Okay! Thanks. Was going to do it as well.

This issue probably occurs on Windows as well.

Bumping. This bug is still present (and the same) in Version 0.3.36-e8239a9 (0.3.36-e8239a9)

Bumping. This is again still present (and the same) in Version 0.3.43-b95f1f7 (0.3.43-b95f1f7)

Same for me…
OS X 10.11.2
N1 0.3.43-b95f1f7

’Select All’ should definitely select all emails in the current folder…

hi @Joe8Bit, thanks for bringing this up. CmdCtrl-A is in fact disabled at the moment due to a known issue: #647. We are working on a fix, and will change a bunch of stuff around keybindings soon. In the meantime, if you have Gmail Shortcuts activated, you can try using *a instead.

@jstejada thanks for note on *a, works great on OS X Version 0.4.5-b0ec335

Hey all, I just merged a bunch of issues related to selecting all into this one. We are actively working on a fix for this now. The issue centers around better control over the menus and keybindings. Since cmd+a sometimes needs to fall back to native behavior and the current system to properly scope the correct action is insufficient, we're needing to rethink the way menus, keymaps, and native behaviors interact. We're working on this one now and should have an update soon.

Putting

'body':
  'cmdctrl-a': 'multiselect-list:select-all'

in $NYLAS_HOME/keymap.cson worked as a temporary fix for me.

How can I help to put this feature in the next version? :)

Hey folks - this should work as expected in the next version once it's released.

Hey! A fix is shipping now in 0.4.40, which will be hitting the auto-updaters soon. (If you want, you can grab the update now on the Releases page.) Let us know if you're still experiencing the issue after trying it! Thanks!

Still not working in 0.4.40 for me. Both Edit > Select All and Ctrl + A do nothing.

Using windows 10.

Can confirm what @mtaki14 has commented, this behaviour is still broken in Version 0.4.45-7637265 (0.4.45-7637265)

I'm using Manjaro-Deepin and the function does not work.

I am re-opening this issue. We're looking into what went on here.

The shortcut is _*a_, not _CTRL+A_. It works under Win10 and version 0.4.45. Thank you @annielcook.
