Hi,
Is the Outlook calendar supported yet? I see the Calendar folder but apparently it's empty and not syncing.
thanks
not that I want to use it, but I need it. So this is a must have for me!
Also the meeting scheduling with the information of availability for the people.
Thanks
Same here!
I agree the calendar support is a high priority. However, the "Calendar Folder" is an artifact of the Outlook hierarchy. That folder shows up in other mail clients "empty" because it contains the calendar items that are not formatted like emails. So they don't show up. If you create other calendars you might notice a similar thing where folders of those calendar names show up.
+1 Really want to use N1 over thunderbird but I really can't until we get an integrated event calendar. I just checked the trello board and couldn't find anything for integrated calendar there yet.
+1. Also need it!
+1 but i think it's a long way off

+1. I feel this is a must for an exchange account
+1 for calendar support (could be a standalone app, build the same way)
I agree this could be a stand alone app, or a window that is able to open. It should be included in the same package.

Prospects for this client are more then bright, but personally I can't make a switch until there's a working calendar.
Full calendar or just invites? What are you using right now?

Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHubhttps://github.com/nylas/N1/issues/310#issuecomment-177095481.
Full calendar, with alerts and with the ability to add multiple calendars. Currently I'm using thunderbird with lightning calendar
@grinich multiple (full) calendar will alerts. Using Icedove (Debian rebranded Thunderbird).
To get this working I'm using following extensions:
To get full integration with my GNOME desktop and GNOME calendar app, I've also added Exchange/Google account using "Online Accounts" which have support for calendar among other things.

need this! i'm cool with a light calendar which shows me upcoming events from exchange
At the very least, N1 should recognize when an ICS has been sent in an email, parse the contents and render them in the body of the email. Right now if I get a meeting invite I have to open thunderbird to see a parsed view of the meeting invite.
I guess I should clarify. It already parses the name of the meeting and Date/Time. I would like it to also parse out the proposed attendees, proposed meeting place, whether or not the event has been canceled, etc. I'm attaching a screenshot of a comparison of the same event rendered in Thunderbird vs N1.

So far, Nylas email client is very nice...Yes, an addition of Exchange calendar (the #1 reason Exchange gained popularity ) is needed...
Thank you,

Currently I have partially switched to Nylas N1. With a working calendar feature will make a complete (and irriversible) switch to Nylas :D

I currently am stuck between N1 and Thunderbird. I have DavMail (LDAP, CalDAV, CardDAV) and Lightning running alongside N1. I really do like Lightning (it has every feature I could want), but I think that N1 can do a great job as well!

Merging this into #44. We do support Exchange calendars in the sync engine, we just haven't finished the Calendar UI yet :-). Stay tuned!
Any progress made on calendars? I love N1, but I can't commit myself to it unless it integrates a working calendar.

The majority of folks will not adopt until a calendar is offered.. this being the year 2005 and all..
Nothing yet?
Yeah, doesn't work for me either. It's concerning that calendar is not supported, but it's more concerning that there doesn't seem to be much activity around adding it.
Same here would love to have it. For now I use a OWA (Outlook Web Access) just for my calendar. This is really stressfull. I have a one year license but ain't planning to renew it as long there isn't a fully working calendar.
@doitonlinemedia So, they "merged" this issue into #44, and then just closed #44. And now they have been silent on it for almost 2 years. So, I think it is pretty safe to say that they have no intention of providing this.
This GitHub issue is not asking for a enhancement or reporting a bug. A calendar app would be an entirely new project and thus doesn't belong in this repo.
@grinich the ability to accept or decline events without seeing them is weird in my point of view
@grinich The github page for Nylas N1, at least at the time, encouraged users to suggest new features and vote on features you wanted via the issues section on Github. @bengotow commented on this issue talking about the "We do support Exchange calendars in the sync engine, we just haven't finished the Calendar UI yet :-). Stay tuned!". We have "stayed tuned" for almost 2 years. Then you come back and say that this isn't an enhancement or a bug but a totally new app.... which is fine, but I wish you guys would have been straight up about that 2 years ago vs posting wishy washy comments that made it seem like you guys were actively working on something.
In fact... the readme on this repository still states:
"Have an idea for a package or a feature you'd love to see in Nylas Mail? Search for existing GitHub issues and join the conversation!"
So... here we are, joining the conversation.
Sure, I can reopen the issue if you want. Just trying to make it clear why "add an entire calendar app" is not a quick project and not our primary focus right now.
@grinich as others have said, not supporting a calendar view alienates Exchange and Office 365 users because that's what we're used to getting in Outlook.
I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing either. Nylas has to manage priorities like any company, just trying to provide clarity. The lack of a calendar view seems to be why some of us can't justify abandoning Outlook in favor of Nylas Mail.
@grinich I totally get that, and I am not trying to be a jerk here. It's just that past comments by members of the project, specifically "We do support Exchange calendars in the sync engine, we just haven't finished the Calendar UI yet :-). Stay tuned!" made it seem like this was being worked on by you guys and would be coming. All I was trying to point out was that it had been quite some time since that statement, with no update other than the issues being closed, so it didn't seem like this was something that was ever going to make it in. (Which you have more or less confirmed here.)
@grinich It is pretty simple: A mail app without a calendar is USELESS in corporate environment. It shouldn't be another app, it is part of a mail client and integration should be there
@rhaces we're working as hard as we can ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I guess you can please some of the people, some of the time.
I don't mind that Nylas isn't a calendar. In my case I just need it to properly display ICS files and link off to an appropriate calendar app. It seems like this is meant to work, but somehow in my case (gmail) it doesn't. Is that correct?
@grinich, just a quick follow up on this, is the calendar sync functionality that was mentioned above functional in nylas mail?
If so I guess the whole Calendar problem could be solved by a group effort of coming up with a plugin that allows to at least the basics of Calendar editing, no?
Oh and a big 👍 for the work you all have done so far!
@hassec, Assuming the local version of the sync engine is the same as the cloud version I think we can expect something similar as https://www.nylas.com/cloud/docs#calendars. Too bad the (old) documentation page is not there anymore which I assume is because it needs to be updated just like a lot of the other pages I can still find. @grinich, is this still up-to-date? https://nylas.github.io/nylas-mail/.
I should be getting some more free time once I finally finish the project I am currently working on part-time. And I am really excited to get into some server-side (electron) JS like nylas-mail. I was looking at meteor but have been keeping an eye on electron for some time now as well. This might be a good excuse, still no promises though! ;)
Ok I couldn't help myself looking into this further. As I understood from the above mentioned (hopefully up-to-date) documentation, calendars and the underlying events entities are not available in the SDK. However as the documentation states at Getting Started 2, it is easy (and quite common) to extend the existing stores (the JS representation of the API resource data) and implemented API calls.
So from my superficial observations I think we just need to:
Of which I think the UI would probably take the most time, although we might just be able to "borrow" some ideas from available solutions! Probably will need some debating on the specs for the UI and the actual features. "I want a calendar" is rather broad and not everyone wants an exchange clone.
Anyyyhow enough late night ramblings from me for now, I got a meeting in the morning... :x
@MelvinLoos, wow thanks for looking into that!
I will hopefully have some time to dig into this a little this weekend ;)
Just FYI, there seems to be already existing code placeholders for calendars and events here
Oh nice, hadn't seen that just yet. That might be a good place to start.
I am expecting to be quite busy this weekend so probably won't have time to
look into this then. Keep us up-to-date on your progress your progress!

Ok after browsing a little I have found quite a lot of code in nylas pointing to a calendar...
I am not too familiar with JS so haven't had enough time to untangle this and make any sense of it. But looking at this and also here it seems like there is quite a bit of calendar support already.. ?
@grinich or @emorikawa, could you maybe give us a quick info on what's this all is and what state it is in?
Hi @MelvinLoos,
didn't want to leave you without a reply/update...
I've decided that due the lack of responses on this and other issues that I, at the moment, won't spend my time on this.
sorry about this, I will certainly keep watching nylas mail and it's development. So maybe once they show a little more interest/support of third party contributions this is worth picking up again.
Would love a calendar. Would also love Photoshop on Linux but that's not going to happen either :)
+1
Hard to use Nylas Mail in a business environment w/out at least minimal calendar/event support.
