Is the issue related to a specific email provider (Gmail, Exchange, etc.)?

When I try adding my Gmail account to Nylas, allowing Nylas to use services, and after seeing the "You're all set!" message, my Nylas window doesn't do anything. Opening up the developer toolbar yielded this message:

@v0wels it seems that the error you are getting is temporary given the message We were unable to reach your mail provider. Are you still having trouble connecting?

@TwisterMc is the error thrown when you try to auth with Gmail? Do you see any error message in the UI?

@TwisterMc , @garagatyi do you have any error messages? you can open the console via cmd+alt+w then cmd+alt+i

@jstejada I thought so too, and that's why I waited so long before submitting this issue. I've tried multiple times since 9:30 AM EST (almost 7 hours ago). Same thing every time. The bug still remains.

@v0wels is it happening just with that particular accounts, or other gmail accounts? (or all other types of accounts for that matter?)

All settings were already enabled or checked.

@jstejada didn't do the trick for me either

Here are screenshots. No error messages, just success.

My email is a Google Business account or whatever they call them now. I use to use Nylas long go and it worked fine. Once it went paid, I uninstalled it and now I'm trying it again.

I have also 2 factor authentication on my Gmail accounts. Is that related?

@jstejada - Thanks for your reply! I believe the support page should be updated with this link for Google Apps page: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en.

It didn't work for me however, b/c I keep being redirected to my browser to go through oauth. Something is not being handled correctly when the oauth token is being passed back to Nylas app?

It also specifically asks for the additional permission of "Offline Access," even though it asks for all other permissions upfront during the first time I authorized the app.

@fangKfang thanks! you're right-- my bad! I forgot for a sec we go through the browser with Gmail. Do you have IMAP enabled on your Gmail account (via gmail settings)?

The update hasn't fixed the issue for me either. A few details to note:

  • IMAP is enabled, per the screenshot above.
  • I don't have 2FA on either accounts.

same issue. I get the "sorry we are having trouble connecting" error. I even tried signing out of all email accounts before running this again to see if it would help but to no avail.

@fangKfang curious, did you have those settings enabled?

@jstejada - I had imap disabled, but even after enabling, it's no go. Funny thing is that I've had my account connected to Nylas N1 app, no problem. It's just the new app that is not working.

I'm still having issues. Anything I can try?

I've tried removing the app's permissions from my Google account, no luck. IMAP is enabled as my email works great with Mail.app, PostBox, AirMail, Spark and so on.

I have used Nylas in the past and it use to work fine. Stopped when it became paid. Trying to come back now that it's free.

Hi everyone, we've pinpointed a couple of the root causes of these auth errors, and the fixes are out in v 1.0.15 which we've just released. This should decrease the odds of failed logins. Please let me know if you continue to see the same error!

Having said this, I've had the mail sync running for an hour now, and while all my mail labels were downloaded, no mail is loading and I've been staring at a "Looking for messages..." screen. Not sure if this is a related issue, or if I should be opening another thread.

thanks @v0wels! yes, can you open a new issue for this? In the new issue include the account type (I'm assuming gmail), and a screenshot of the sync progress if you can.

@v0wels, initial sync can take several hours and it might be the case that we just haven't gotten to the messages in those labels! (In gmail, all of the messages live in a single All Mail folder, as opposed to having each label be an actual folder)

I'm farther than before! I have an inbox and it says it's downloading messages now. A little worried I may have @v0wels issue, but it's to soon to tell. I worry as I'd expect to see a message or two by now but nothing. Seems to be working, but not seeing any messages come in.

Still no sync for me after auth :(

Tested both Nylas Pro and master of Nylas Mail on Linux - I still cannot authenticate when I am logged to more than one Google account at once.

What if we still encounter this issue (been having this problem for a long time with a Yahoo account that is properly configured and does sync with other mail clients) ?

Shall we create a new issue, what's the proper way of doing this ?
