Notepad3: [FEATURE Request] adding 'print file' cmdline flag like the original notepad?

since '/p' is laready taken as set window position...

I would like to recommend/suggest changes as follows..

re-flag "set window position"
from = /p
to = /wp ie w= window p=position
or /w

and use /p for printing the file just like in the original notepad...
that way I can replace the file type associations for that function too! :D :D

The original Notepad2 (v.4.2.25 by Flo) uses the /p command-line option to set the window position.
Changing this long lasting NP2 behavior should be discussed in the community ... :-/

There are some more original Notepad options to be considered:

• /A (filename) open file as ansi
• /W (filename) open file as unicode
• /P (filename) print filename
• /PT (filename) (printername) (driverdll) (port) print filename to designated printer

I don't know of anyone that actually uses the windows position flags...

but printing would be handy... lazy I guess lol ;p but handy..

thats why a I suggested moving it to the /wp# with a number as a sub set cmd(s)
and making /p the default print method...

but you devs could put it to the community for a vote I guess O_o??

... forced loading as ANSI or Unicode is already implemented:
"NP2 Doc: Desired file encoding (can be one of /ansi, /unicode, /unicodebe, /utf8 or /utf8sig [cmdln opt])"

I have my default encoding set to 'UTF8' :D :D ,
a BASIC but newer then the ANTIQUATED 'ANSI'
AND still compatible with compilers like MinGW (GCC)(32bit)
I found src code and the cmd bath files I wrote to compile them...
DID NOT LIKE UNICODE (UTF-16 various formats)

besides... with Discord it saves chat logs per sub-channels as many as you want..

Changing /p from window _P_ositioning to _P_rint file is dangerous,
just imagine a user having a startup batch which opens a 10MB log-file with option /p,
now replacing NP3 with a new version .... :-O - so /p is out for printing (and the sub-cmds :-|).

Another test performed..
multi file printing at the same right-click..
AND THE VERDICT!

two short text files..

• /v -- OPENED and CLOSED rapidly, PRINTING SUCCESSFUL!!

• /vd -- OPENED up with PrintDialogBox,
• I closed/canceled(AUTO-CLOSED) first file PrintDialogBox, #2 came to front closed/canceled that too
• NP3 rapid closed, SUCCESSFUL!!

NICE COOL, CONGRATS!!!

I had CS140-"Programing in C", CS185-"Advanced Programing in C"
and I was taking CS280 I think... "Data Structures in C" this was all 2001-2002... uugh
I didn't have the $$$$$ to finish and the sress got to me X( X( ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_;

Plus what I know of Computer hardware and UPDATES are my specialty

I just noticed that this now implemented feature is no longer working.. I just tried it out with build

Notepad 3 (v5.19.327.1665)(Portable)(DevBuild)(x64)

and neither /v or /vd worked... :-(

all it did for both flags was open the text file...
