My opinion is that closing stale issues typically helps nothing. (Depends on the type of issue.) EDIT: we've had a few discussions around this on github and/or mailing-list, during the past couple of years.

- Closing an issue might make it appear that it's fixed or that it doesn't apply anymore.
- Old open issues don't really obstruct anything, I believe, except that it might "look bad" that there are so many of them.
- Larger distros (like Debian) seem to be doing OK despite having loads of open issues.

There is something to be said for closing bug reports after N releases unless somebody confirms that the bug still exists. IIRC Fedora does that.

There is something to be said for closing bug reports after N releases unless somebody confirms that the bug still exists. IIRC Fedora does that.
