Repro

IPublicClientApplication app = PublicClientApplicationBuilder.Create(ClientId).WithAuthority($"https://login.microsoftonline.com/{Tenant}/v2.0").Build();

Expected behavior
The call method returns an IPublicClientApplication that I can use to obtain the token

Actual behavior
The system launch this exceptions:
ERROR: Exception during construction of EventSource Microsoft.Identity.Client: Unable to load DLL 'advapi32.dll': The specified module could not be found.

ERROR: Exception during construction of EventSource System.Collections.Concurrent.ConcurrentCollectionsEventSource: Unable to load DLL 'advapi32.dll': The specified module could not be found.

We don't really use EventSource for anything except for some platform logging. I have no idea for what this code is used. I think it can be removed...

if I try to go on and launch one of these methods:

I've captured the full log, calling

await app.AcquireTokenByUsernamePassword(scopes, user, securePwd).ExecuteAsync();

it seems there is a problem with json parser library, if it's the newtonsoft.json library I know that it doesn't work in unity L2CPP, we use a fork of that library inside our projects that works in L2CPP (https://github.com/jilleJr/Newtonsoft.Json-for-Unity)

MSAL uses newtonsoft.json indeed. We don't take a reference to it so as not to cause versioning problems, but we have an internal copy of it.

I've downloaded the source code, deleted all classess releted to Microsoft.Identity.Json, added newtonsoft references, edited all the new SHA\*\*\*Cng() to SHA\*\*\*.Create() because of another error (System.Security.Cryptography.SHA256Cng::.ctor); compiled and now I have a modded version of this library that works in Unity on Android builded in IL2CPP (only AcquireTokenByUsernamePassword)

The reason why we copied Newtonsoft into MSAL instead of referencin it directly is that it caused a ton of problems due to diamond dependencies, i.e. apps depend on it on version x, MSAL depends on it on version y - it causes a mess that is not easy to sort out (binding redirects is the recommended solution).
We were thinking of using System.Text, which is now the recommended json parser, but it does not have support all the way down to .net 45.

If you say that the latest newtonsoft works with unity, then we can update our internal copy to latest as well.

However for SHA256Cng things are more complicated. I believe that the Create method is actually just a method on the base class HashAlgorithm https://stackoverflow.com/questions/20142846/why-do-all-the-variants-of-sha256-appear-as-sha256managed. Unity does not seem to support SHA256Cng, as discussed here.

@GeoK - do you know if we can use Sha256Managed instead of Sha256Cng? Is it a compliance problem?

Unfortunately Newtonsoft doesn't want to make his libraries compatible with Unity. But there is a fork of Newtonsoft that works with unity and it's updated to the latest version of newtonsoft (12.0). probably you will take only the fix that the fork do to solve the problem.

@pocce90 thanks for the info.
It seems there's a non-dynamic version of the JSON parser in the code.
I switched to that version and it seems to not crash. had to change the Sha256Cng related code.

Need some setup on the Unity side to prevent the stripping, though.
The device code method and User/password method work for me at the moment.

I can live with this for now, but It would be great to know if this library has plans to support Unity.

UPDATE:
I've downloaded the source code, deleted all classess releted to Microsoft.Identity.Json, added newtonsoft references, edited all the new SHA\*\*\*Cng() to SHA\*\*\*.Create() because of another error (System.Security.Cryptography.SHA256Cng::.ctor); compiled and now I have a modded version of this library that works in Unity on Android builded in IL2CPP (only AcquireTokenByUsernamePassword)

The main workaround here is to use MSAL's netstandard DLL. The rest do not work with Unity.

We could use System.Text.Json instead, but this does proposed for the lowest SKUs.
