Include the ability to automatically generate a short URL, when a URL is posted. Could perhaps tie the URL to the mastadon instance e.g. linuxrocks.online/fgt87Dt, or perhaps a global mastadon URL shortener?

URL shorteners prevent users from seeing where they are redirected. Additionally they add the possibility to track users. I don't see any reason for the use of these shorteners - especially the long URL are shortened when displayed anyway.

If only there was a way to have the visible URL shortened but display the full destination upon hovering the link.
