Mastodon: Sort toots chronologically

Created on 27 Jun 2018  Â·  4Comments  Â·  Source: tootsuite/mastodon

It's kinda related/followup to #1539 but for someone who likes to catch-up with what happened in the order it happened it would nice to have chronological sort. But for it to work we would also require mark as read feature (so after opening we would only see new items at the top).

This is mostly a bit quirky, but not everyone spends all the time on mastodon and usually catches up every now and then so that would be great way to do it.

Ahhh, I see what you mean now. It sounds like you're asking for a more email-like client. I'm not sure that would work with the default Mastodon webapp's current model, but I'm sure there's demand for that. And it probably makes sense since ActivityPub is basically email-over-JSON.

Mastodon is already sorted chronologically -- in fact, it's one of the defining features. What exactly do you mean by this?

OK, they are sorted chronologically but… I meant reversed, i.e. oldest on top. Currently we have the newest on top.

I know that this is quite unorthodox and every other "social" network does it like that but I usually operate on "get done" basis (open, read from oldest to newest, close): mail, rss and it would be great to be able to read toots like that as well.

Yes, something like that. I would think that quite a lot of people would like this modus operandi (with the exception of those using it as a chat app I guess).
