Kratos: Release 5.3

Created on 31 Jan 2018  路  23Comments  路  Source: KratosMultiphysics/Kratos

It is time to start the final count down for the next release. The release branch will be created after 20th of February.

I have changed the previous release project to new one maintaining the same structure and also the application which where included.

I have also created a milestones for better organization

Steps to take

I would encourage all @KratosMultiphysics/team-maintainers and also developers to:

  1. Revising the project and add their application if they want to join this release.
  2. Revising their corresponding issues and assign them to the release 5.3 milestone

I would kindly ask for all your collaboration during this release period.

Most helpful comment

As I did not receive any other issue, I am upgrading v5.3-Rc to Release. @jginternational Feel free to use it. https://github.com/KratosMultiphysics/Kratos/releases/tag/v5.3!!

I will let the issue open a couple of weeks in case anything happens.

We are closing to the scheduled release branch in next week and there are still some works to be done:

  • @antonialarese MPM application is not listed to be compiled in the project Is it what you want or you want to have it compiled as binary like the previous version. In latter case please include it in the project
  • @KratosMultiphysics/structural-mechanics there are several issues related to you app in the milestone. Would you please give me a feed back about them.
  • @KratosMultiphysics/fluid-dynamics Would you please confirm if you apply changes in scripts or not.
  • @marandra what is the situation with new CLaws in StructuralMechanics are they added?

Thanks for your collaboration

@pooyan-dadvand we are finishing the Python solvers update. Hopefully, we will merge this today (#1490).

Important

The release branch is postponed to the next week so I would encourage you to not merge important PRs to the master until then.

Still waiting some more days for the release branch.

@marandra have you proceed with your changes?

Hi @pooyan-dadvand

I created the branch to add 2d and 3d plasticity and the Bbar element. Right now I am cleaning the code and running some validation cases. Sorry for the delay, should be ready for merge tomorrow!

Thanks a lot @marandra

Meanwhile @KratosMultiphysics/structural-mechanics would you please start testing these new constitutive laws?

I see no more PR in Milestone 5.3 so I will create the release branch in about 15 min. If there is something else due to include in the release please tell me.

Branch created at: https://github.com/KratosMultiphysics/Kratos/tree/Release-5.3

As usual commits there will be slightly more restrictive than in master but we need hotfixed can be added.

The first beta for the 5.3 is out:
https://github.com/KratosMultiphysics/Kratos/releases/tag/v5.3-Beta-1

Please try it and let me know if there is something missing. I woudl also kindly ask you if you can send us a summerized list of changes of your applications to add to the changelog.

Here a brief list of things that are new in StructuralMechanics (@KratosMultiphysics/structural-mechanics please add if I missed sth):

  • Process for Eigenvalue Postprocessing Visualization
  • Force/Moment output for Beams and Trusses
  • Initial support for beam-hinges

For the fluid dynamics:

  • Clean up and rewrite of the monolithic fluid element to unify the body-fitted and embedded formulations.
  • The new monolithic element now supports quadrilateral and tetrahedral geometries, as well as non-Newtonian constitutive relations through the use of a ConstitutiveLaw.
  • New utility to compute the forces over arbitrary objects (DragUtility) both for body-fitted and embedded problems.

@rubenzorrilla please add any points regarding embedded formulations you think could be relevant here.

For the embedded fluid dynamics:

  • Two new embedded slip formulations: a continuous distance one for bodies with well defined internal volume and a discontinuous distance one for bodies without internal volume.
  • A new visualization tool for all embedded formulations. This new process prints an extra GiD output file containing 2 layers for the positive and negative fluid as well as 2 layers containing the positive and negative skin. Besides it performs the solution interpolation using the shape functions using during the calculation (standard FE space or Ausas space).

For the Poromechanics Application:

  • The internal variable for the damage model is only updated at the end of the step
  • Small bug fixes

@marandra would you please add your new CLs and elements to the feature list?

Adding to the changes to the Structural Mechanics Application:

  • New constitutive law for J2 plasticity in 3D and Plane Strain 2D geometries
  • New small strain B-bar element for hexahedral and quadrilateral geometries

I've just updated the beta release with the changes from last friday. You can find it here:
https://github.com/KratosMultiphysics/Kratos/releases/tag/v5.3-Beta-2

I've just published the RC. If I don't get any new feedback I will promote this version to release on Monday 25/03/2018. @jginternational Is this ok for you with the interface?
https://github.com/KratosMultiphysics/Kratos/releases/tag/v5.3-Rc

@roigcarlo fine!

As I did not receive any other issue, I am upgrading v5.3-Rc to Release. @jginternational Feel free to use it. https://github.com/KratosMultiphysics/Kratos/releases/tag/v5.3!!

I will let the issue open a couple of weeks in case anything happens.

I've created the branch in the interface for the release 5.3
KratosMultiphysics/GiDInterface#314

ready for testing before packing

@jginternational please revert commit f95d6025f7de2c4d3376a2b3f8679c236cdf7941 here in the interface release branch, I was not aware that the branch had not been created yet and commited the new fluid scripts, which use stuff not in the kratos 5.3 branch.

@jcotela done only in release branch

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

this is done. closing
