Currently, when I set kibana.defaultAppId: "dashboard" in kibana.yml, and I launch http://localhost:5601, I get "Edit new Dashboard" screen, even if I already have dashboards created.
It would be better to have "Dashboard list" screen, which is coherent with "click on Dashboard tab" action which already led to "Dashboard list" screen.
Hmm, we did recently merge https://github.com/elastic/x-pack-kibana/pull/5075, wonder if it caused this. I thought I checked existing behavior with that PR and all looked good (quite possible I missed something though when reviewing).

Hi @Stacey-Gammon,
Up to my tests, this behavior is old : I have this behavior with Kibana 5.6.
And I have also this behavior with Kibana 6.1 and Kibana 6.2.
So IMO, I don't think it is an issue led by a recent PR (though I can't see the PR you mention because it is on a private repository).
@fbaligand can you try changing dashboard to dashboards? defaultAppId more or less appends #/${defaultAppId} to app/kibana so you should be able to add query params and change the routes as needed.
You're right ! It works great with dashboards !
I blame myself for not thinking about it sooner !
Glad the problem got solved. Plurals is always hard ;-)

Hey guys,
Can we set a canvas as default homepage instead of a dashboard? I am using kibana 6.7.2. Please guide me on how to do so, if this is possible.
