In certain kinds of meeting it's valuable to have the chat always visible. My particular use case is a sign language practice meeting, where it's vital to see everybody at once and so we're using the grid view. If the chat is visible, like if someone couldn't get an idea across in sign so typed it, or someone's trying to get someone else's attention, it covers up some of the participants.
Describe the solution you'd like
I'd like the chat to reserve its own space when open, and so the space for tile view participants would be reduced by the same amount. Alternatively this could be an option, like having a button to "pin" the chat window open.
I use Jitsi to teach so I usually have slides displayed and students can't use/see the chat without hiding the lefthand part of the slides which is a big downer.
It's even worse for students using the Android client, where the chat completely replaces the video rather than partially hiding a part of it.
This is the main usability issue right now for us.

I still think it's important.
This is already done in latest versions.
Is it deployed? I just tried on meet.jit.si and the chat bar still overlaps video, and I can't find any option to pin it.
Most probably will be deployed next week.
you can check it on beta meet jit si
Seems great. Thanks.
