My wife's iphone 6 (iOS v10.3.3) had this issue (occupying 500mb of cache!). Had the setting (remove after upload) but it kept occupying cache space. Also saw it happen on my iPhone 7 too (v10.3.3) now too (200MB of cache occupied) despite having the 'remove after upload' setting on.
I have same configuration settings as the OP.
Hi boy I have look the code and this option (Remove files after upload) works
Hello! First of all thank you for dealing with the issue.
Just to clarify: The issue is not about the cache space in the app. My point is the normal space occupied by the images on the phone.
Could you/can somebody verfy that the option is working? Or am I misunderstanding the option?
Regards
just a question, when it says "Remove files after upload", does it remove it from Camera Roll (e.g. normal space occupied by iPhone) or does it remove from NC App's cache space (e.g. cache space on NC app)??
For security the NC App don't removed the photo on Camera Roll but only on internal cache.
The German explanation of this feature is absolutely confusing.
I understand that after uploading the photos they are deleted from the device memory. The pictures will still in the camera roll shown. If you want to show the photos you need to click on it an they will be downloaded.
@vain90 I also think the explanation in the app is misleading. In addition the feature list in the app store explains memory optimisation ("You can enable memory optimization Nextcloud to save space on your Phone"). I also interpret this as possibility to automatically upload the images and then have them deleted entirely from the phone.
I suggest to either change the menu and feature text or adjust the behavior of the app to stay consistent.
I was also under the impression this option would work somewhat similar to iCloud, that it removes the original after upload clearing storage space. Perhaps the solution to this ticket is linking to documentation clarifying the feature?
However it would be a cool feature if nexcloud would implement it. Maybe it's not possible with iOS SDK, but if it could create a small thumbnail of the video or picture with a clone of the original file metadata and delete the original, it could retain all the iOS location data features in camera roll while clearing the space for more user content.
this feature is not working on my ios phone since last year, tried with the latest client and the latest NC (v14) still not working
Bump
For me the option i not even being shown in the German version 2.22.8.20 of the iOS app ( Ipad and iPhone) with NC 15.0.4.
Is there any effort being made towards getting this feature working?
Same problem here, IOS 12.4 and latest Nextcloud App and latest Nextcloud Server (15.04)
Kind regards
This seems to be duplicate of https://github.com/nextcloud/ios/issues/157 As a user I want to delete photos / videos from camera roll after upload to nextcloud.
This feature would be nice
