Handbrake: Request: option to force encode as mp4 instead of m4v

Created on 26 Sep 2018  路  4Comments  路  Source: HandBrake/HandBrake

Hi there,

For some reason HandBrake encode the files as m4v, and this not the type of file I want I only like to use mkv and mp4 file and it's very annoying I have to use other software to encode as mp4.

Also, please note.
When enabling "Automatically File Naming" option and set the default path to (e.g. the desktop).
HandBrake will save the files as m4v instead of mp4.
But if you disable this option HandBrake will save as mp4.

Using windows 10 and HandBrake Nightly last build.

HandBrake already has an option for this. (Preferences -> Output Files -> MP4 File Extension)

M4V is an MP4 file with the extension changed to make Apple happy. Originally, Apple devices would not enable certain features if the extension was not M4V.

There is no difference in the CONTENT of the file, just the name.

There is an option to enable/disable forcing the extension to be m4v on the very screen you mentioned.

There isn't suck option in linux, in fact a lot of options differ. How can this be?
