Ha-bridge: Something changed for Echo with 2.0.0?

Created on 27 Apr 2016  路  41Comments  路  Source: bwssytems/ha-bridge

I had 1.4.3 running fine talking to an API of my own. It returns 200 with PHP headers. It works fine on 1.4.3. I downloaded the 2.0.0 jar and even though I didn't change anything Echo says 'the device didn't respond' but it does switch. The command I see in the log of my API is the same. Do I need to send something else back?

Are there any errors in the ha-bridge log? Maybe the echo timed out as the call took too long?

I'm getting the same. The switch happens almost instantly, the log shows it got a 200 response from my API but Alexa says it did not respond.

On top of that I ran a forget and discover. All my devices are no longer seen by Alexa.

When I run the test buttons everything is fine btw.

Please turn on trace upnp and post your logs after a discover from the echo

Here you go:

10.0.0.12 is the bridge
10.0.0.37 is the Echo

Also, please provide the IP address of your ha-bridge and the Amazon echo. It will help to see what is calling the bridge. Thanks

Post updated. Thanks :)

Oh and 8124 is the bridge port, 50000 is the UPNP port.

I've hijacked this issue, I just realised. I'm sorry! Would you like me to start another and leave this one to the 'next' issue :)

This is fine and it may be related.

All the devices in Alexa appeared as Offline before I did a rediscover. @osenbruggen do you see that?

Well, the log shows that the Echo did the correct things with the ha-bridge and the ha-bridge responded appropriately. Will need to look at the details of the responses to make sure there isn't something weird in there.

Anything I can do to help debug, let me know.

try this jar file as I think I found the issue

http://www.bwssystems.com/files/ha-bridge-2.0.0a.jar

Okay, discovery now works. Except all the discovered devices appear as offline (in Alexa).

Alexa is functioning correctly though (except for the error about devices not responding). So we're back on issue topic at least.

New debug log for when I ask the bedroom lights to turn off:

I didn't try rediscover, since I assumed there was a problem I switched back. Should that .a jar also fix the response ?

It fixes the discover, but I don't think he's worked on the 'Offline' bug yet. Do your devices appear as Offline in the Alexa app though, @osenbruggen?

More updates that should be good for both issues, try this jar file:

http://www.bwssystems.com/files/ha-bridge-2.0.0b.jar

Yep, that works perfectly. Swift help and bug fixing. Keep up the good work, and thank you!

I will test later tonight. Thanks.

It looks like I dropped off the state object resposne for a device when I implemented the Hue proxy feature. Thanks

@fearoffish - I see you are taking advantage of the HTTPS call. Great!

@bwssytems Yeah. I finally had to bite the bullet and buy an SSL cert for my domain too, instead of using letsencrypt. I had to manually add my letsencrypt cert to the java keystore every time before...now it just works. :)

So, ha-bridge with home-assistant is a really good pair now :) I just use the custom type and send https api calls :)

That is Awesome! Gluing the world together bit by bit...

Oh and thanks for the custom headers addition, I needed that for home-assistant auth to work.

Do you happen to have a write up on how to do this with Home Assistant? IT would be great to get that out there.

I don't, but I could definitely put one together. I'll do that at the weekend (hopefully).

That is great! If you don't mind, I'll just link to that in the Bridge section of the bwssystems.com website.

Feel free. I'll be adding more to the blog, but it won't all be HA-Bridge specific. FYI.

Not a problem, any HA info is good!

@fearoffish AWESOME! Thanks for taking the time to document and share. I have a blog (http://coreyswrite.com/?p=394) where I detailed connecting X10 equipment to the Echo using the ha-bridge, I'll make a post and throw a link to your site on there.

Nice blog, I like the amount of detail. I burnt out my blogging many years ago, so I'm starting with short-ish posts. Yours are looooong and detailed :)

Thanks to your work I can create a Home Assist -> ha-bridge connection to control my X10 with the Home Assist app.

OK sorry for the delay. It works for me now as well :)

I took the more stubborn way by the way. I wrote my own HA stuff locally. PHP / MySQL based. ha-bridge talks to this app and it on it turn talks to my Nest / Fibaro / Domoticz / MrHouse / Hue / etc... In this way I only let ha-bridge give simple HTTP API commands that I interpret and lookup the devices in the database to see what types they are and what commands they need. In this way I can interface anything I like. It also handles timed events, trigger based events, scenes, groups etc. so in this way I'm not depending on intelligence in my controllers. I have a lot of devices and had lots of communication problems in the past on Z-Wave. Now I divided everything into small Islands with its own controller and run a central brain. I also made my own Echo custom skill that also sends just HTTP to the same API. In this way I can ask my app anything I like. It is nice to have this freedom I think. Maybe other people reading this that know how to code can get inspired. So I though maybe share this idea here. Thanks for the quick fix :)

@bwssytems Could you change the URL to my blog post, I've decided to be serious and moved it to my github pages: http://fearoffish.com/home-automation/home-assistant-and-ha-bridge/

Done
