The more I investigate this issue , the less I'm convinced about the benefits of using image-webpack-loader, it seems to depend too much on dependencies which are difficult to build on all platforms especially OSX and Windows. All this stuff just to optimize images that may be have already been optimized by a graphist using dedicated tools.... 😭

Personally, I think that we should get rid of this and move it to an optional module, the user experience is just too frustrating and support is too complex.

What do you think @jhipster/developers ?

Yes I'm seeing those DEPRECATED. Configure gifsicle's interlaced option in it's own options and they are new to me. There might be an issue with this on Windows?

-> let's do this, and close this ticket, but @guayeguaye I can't test this on Windows so I'm not 100% sure it's your bug, so don't hesitate to comment & add more info if you still have the bug after that

when i install the version 4.0.2 or 4.0.1 ,the warning is missing,but the errors still exist

I delete the line image-webpack-loader?bypassOnDebug&optimizationLevel=7&interlaced=false in webpack.common.js

The warnings are due to library updates. Nothing serious yet but should be
fixed as its deprecated.

The warning doesn't seem related to the issue reported so it would be nice
if someone can reproduce this in windows.

@deepu105 the image loader was downgraded by @flaviencathala as it was causing the warnings

Then I have no idea if that fixes anything on Windows, but I guess there is a link, as we didn't have that error before

I dont like downgrading to fix deprecation as we cant always stay with an old lib. here is the actual fix described in the libs issue tracker https://github.com/tcoopman/image-webpack-loader/issues/68

@TonyLuo this is not about changing your .yo-rc.json, it's just to compare your configurations and yours is completely different from @Abhi365 which uses no authentication type and --skip-server. Your config looks more like the one from @guayeguaye . So we could have 2 dfferent issues here and we need to reproduce.

So it's on Windows, OK, but what is your version of Node ? Yarn ?
When ? After generating the project with yo jhipster ? After your build ? With ./mvnw package -Pprod ? With yarn run webpack:build ?

Do you have the last error ERROR in [at-loader] src\main\webapp\app\shared\login\login.service.ts:16:18 from @Abhi365 or it's the initial stacktrace at notFoundError (D:\demo\node_modules\execa\node_modules\cross-spawn\lib\en oent.js:11:11 ?

Did you try to delete your node_modules and reinstall it ?

This occurs on the first time yo jhipster is run, and the error is the second one you mentioned:

What node_modules folder do you recommend deleting? There's about a million on my computer and it took me a long time to configure the proxy settings so I don't want to delete something I don't have to.

Please let me know if there's any more info you need

Reading some issue about this error, it seems to be a problem when installing your node_modules libraries.
Try to delete your local node_modules of your project, then retry to launch yarn install

@Abhi365, I reproduced your issue with your .yo-rc.json and yo jhipster --skip-server, it is not related with this issue so please open a new issue if you feel it must be fixed.

The issue is a compilation error in login.service.ts because AuthServerProvider is missing and has not been generated. This is not surprising because you used --skip-server option so you were not asked about the authentication scheme and so the client generator has no way to know how to generate AuthServerProvider and probably other authentication code.

I tried to add "authenticationType": "jwt", to .yo-rc.json but it did not help.

So either, we consider your use case as a corner case that we don't support or we consider authentication type question should be asked when using --skip-server and related code should be generated. The discussion is open.

First, please open a new issue so that we don't pollute this one anymore.

There is a flag to provide auth option if you use the client sub gen directly

One hint maybe, when you look at https://github.com/imagemin/pngquant-bin/blob/master/lib/index.js

You can see that the URL to the executable for Windows will be computed as:

https://raw.github.com/imagemin/pngquant-bin/v3.1.1/vendor/win/pngquant.exe

but if you use a browser and navigate to the same file you see that URL is:

https://github.com/imagemin/pngquant-bin/blob/v3.1.1/vendor/win/pngquant.exe?raw=true

Both URLs give same result in browser, I don't know if it's the same in node script.

install.js just tries to run pngquant.exe --version to test that it works.

Personally, I think that we should get rid of this and move it to an optional module, the user experience is just too frustrating and support is too complex.

What do you think @jhipster/developers ?

@gmarziou I can generate a project fine when I choose angular 1.x instead of 2.x so I'll just stick with that for now, thanks for trying anyway :)

Well I also found that yarn on Windows has some problems with native node modules requiring node-gyp. For instance, I was unable to build jhipster-registry with yarn, I had to use npm to get it working.

@jdubois @deepu105 I run into the same issue on MacOS as well. I think this ticket should be reopened and addressed as @gmarziou said (Make it optional). @

Issue solved by deleting node_modules and running again yarn install.

deleting node_modules didn't help.

@ndjordjevic You need to pass the options to your app if you want to use yo jhipster:client directly.

Because you did not specify which authentication type you want with --auth option.
See the doc or run yo jhipster:client --help.
So for JWT, you should run: yo jhipster:client --auth=jwt

It works. Thanks a lot @ruddell.
Just wonder why the options like: dev-db, db, hb-cache ... etc... exist in jhipster:client generator since it should generate only a client and those are related to server, if I'm not wrong...
