Frr: BGP: L2VPN/EVPN documentation needed

Created on 23 Jun 2018  ·  9Comments  ·  Source: FRRouting/frr

There is basically nothing in the user docs on L2VPN or EVPN - there should be intro text as well as command reference.

This is needed in 5.x

documentation

I'm interest in implementing/validating EVPN-MPLS to connect multiple Hypervisors with vlan-aware-bridge(s). The idea also include to get ecmp to balance/share traffic on the hypervisors uplinks. At the moment I'm not able to figure out what kind of interface create and use between FRR and the bridge, and also how to associate that interface to the EVPN instance.

@TekunoKage

We are currently implementing frr and evpn-bgp in kvm/proxmox hypervisor.
here the doc (based on debian, and ifupdown2 configuration)
https://git.proxmox.com/?p=pve-docs.git;a=blob_plain;f=vxlan-and-evpn.adoc;hb=HEAD

maybe it can help you.

@aderumier

Thanks for the examples! My idea is also with Proxmox as hypervisor, so that was greate.
That make me confirm that what I'm trying to achieve could be a more broad need. May be we can exchange ideas to make it happen.

@TekunoKage
sure, please contact me on [email protected]. I'm already in contact with 2 others guys interested by vxlan && evpn bgp implementation in proxmox.
ifupdown2 is already available, but frr package not. frr 5.0.1 should be ready at the end of the month in proxmox repo.

Hi. I'm still working on it. It'll be too short for proxmox 6.0, but it should be ready for 6.1. (With easy setup at datacenter level)
