Franz: Cannot paste in the password field when creating an account on Mac

Created on 2 Oct 2018  ·  9Comments  ·  Source: meetfranz/franz

Expected Behavior

For users of a password manager, it is critical to be able to paste your password when creating your account or when logging in. It is often too long and complicated to be typed manually without errors.

Current Behavior

Cannot paste a password in the corresponding field.

Context

Creating an account

Your Environment

  • Franz Version used: 5.0.0-beta 18
  • Operating System and version: macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
    Installed thanks to brew cask.

I got super pissed off due to this. I had all my usual accounts on Franz, one morning I start it and is asking me to log in, after months of using it I didn't even remember if I ever created an account.

Try to create an account, can't paste my password from LastPass.

No thanks. Why do I need an account for an "Open Source" app if I don't want to? :/

Amen to this. It was a nightmare. Almost didn’t use the app due to this
roadblock.

As a workaround, create your account with any password, then go to https://meetfranz.com/auth/password-reset/ to reset your password in your browser.

I will second this. Would like to see this issue fixed.

The current state both limits users from pasting a password manager-generated pw and also incentivizes users to use overly simplistic pw's.

This was a big enough issue that I reverted to my v4.0.4 copy. This raises 2 questions:

  1. why do I need a Franz account
  2. why is pasting disabled in the entire sign up form? There is no good reason for this and it is a security issue.

Thankfully I was able to revert to my old version otherwise I probably would have uninstalled and stopped using Franz on the spot.

👍 This should be fixed.

I want add my voice to this.

This is a major annoyance and also the reason I am not using Franz anymore at the moment.
Not due to the problem existing during registration, but due to the issue existing during login.

There is no password manager integration, so I have to copy/past my password. But pasting does not work, since Franz does not incorporate the super-standard "Edit"-menu in the menu bar. I'm surprised at this oversight to be honest, and hope this can be fixed soon. I can not come up with any reason why someone would not want to include the Edit-menu..

You’re right. Closing.
