I have the same issue. I've seen it use 2.5GB out of 4GB with light browsing and one tab.

I suspect this may be related to memory leaks. We currently have two known memory leaks:

• https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/android-components/issues/7051
• https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/android-components/issues/7180

We should re-evaluate this issue after this is addressed.

An about:memory log would also be helpful here, this might be #9065. In the case of the screen resolution of the author, there is currently a leak in beta and release that leaks 7 MiB for Full HD-devices every time the app is resumed (foregrounding, waking up the device/unlocking with browser in foreground). The amount of leaked memory is higher for higher resolution devices.

We can't contact the original reporter https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/12374#issuecomment-668915974 and believe we've addressed the root cause (memory leaks; though there are still a few more to squash) so I'm going to close the issue.
