Thursday, 26 November from 8:30 PM CET onwards. Bring your own Bavarian beers or other favourite drink and join the zoom meeting here!
Looks good, thanks for creating the agenda agenda and organizing the workshop!
If possible, I would like to move the topic 'Guidelines review pull requests incl. discussion (tbd)' to much earlier in the workshop, as I hope that together we will be able to review and merge many of the currently open pull requests during this workshop, so it would be good to have clear guidelines on how to do this early on.
@bouweandela excellent point! I moved the item to the beginning of the first afternoon. A small group could then work on the guidelines in the morning which can then be presented and discussed in the afternoon.
Thanks!
@hb326 , @ledm , @Peter9192 - Would it be a good idea to use on of the "Work individually" slots for a User Engagement group meeting? I am not able to add Lisa's username here but can send an email with some discussion points ahead of time. Posting this here so any others can contribute as well.
@rswamina Lisa Bock you mean?
Yes, for some reason I wan't able to see it auto-filled or on the assignee list. Strangely am able to do so now!
@LisaBock - Please see previous comment. Thanks!

May I propose a logo for the workshop?
How can we sign up for the workshop? @hb326 @axel-lauer
@Peter9192, @ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam:
We had first thought that it might not be necessary to sign up for the workshop. After all, it is virtual, and we don't have to register people at the DLR entrance. But, it might be nice to get an overview about how many people would like to attend when, so here is a table where you can indicate on which day you plan to attend the workshop.
| Name | Tue 24 Nov | Wed 25 Nov | Thu 26 Nov |
|:---------|:---------------:|:-----------------:|:---------------:|
Birgit Hassler | x | x | x
Axel Lauer | x | x | x

@nielsdrost: Thanks! You fixed the table! I could not figure out how to create a table here... ;)
@hb326 We've been working on running ESMValTool in the Jupyter Hub environment hosted at DKRZ. This is related to the development of a Python API we're doing for the EUCP project, and the infrastructure developments in IS-ENES3. Perhaps it would be nice if we can briefly present this during the workshop. Do you think we can still squeeze this in?
@Peter9192 that's a great idea! I added this topic to the agenda (from 10-10.30 on Thursday). I hope that day/time is fine, otherwise we'll find another time slot.
I normally do not work Tuesdays, but I'll see if I can organise someone for childcare. I will try to be there at least for the "review pull requests".
Added myself to the list.
sames, one thing left to do - find ze German bier
Hi everyone, I wouldn't be able to attend because of the time difference. Is there a chance to record some of the generic sessions? Thanks in advance!
So it seems that Mistral will be down on Thursday for maintenance, which makes the workshop harder for anyone using it - any plans to potentially switch to more "presentation-heavy" content for Thursday or are we just going to have to deal with it somehow?
Hey all @ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam,
please find here the information on how to join the workshop via DFN telcon:

Hey all again @ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam,
we will use Gitter for the upcoming workshop for communication if we are not in the virtual meeting. You can find the Gitter channel that we will use here:
https://gitter.im/ESMValGroup/Lobby?utm_source=share-link&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=share-link
I have also added people to the channel already if they indicated in the table that they are planning on participating in the workshop. If you cannot access the gitter channel, let me know and I will try to find a solution.
Talk to you tomorrow! :)
Hi everyone, I wouldn't be able to attend because of the time difference. Is there a chance to record some of the generic sessions? Thanks in advance!
Hey @malininae,
the workshop will be focusing mostly on technical details, so there will not be many generic presentations. However, there are three presentations that will introduce new developments, and we will record them so that they can be viewed outside the workshop hours.
@malininae Depending on your time zone, you might be able to join one of our Monthly meetings? The next meeting will be in December #1900. If the times proposed in the doodle do not suit you, you could also comment on the issue and we could try to pick a time that works for everyone?
Thank you @hb326 and @bouweandela ! Sorry it was a bit unclear with the "generic sessions". What was meant were the talks like Introduction ESMValTool tutorial, Introduction virtual machine and bot at DKRZ and Running ESMValTool in the Jupyter Hub environment, which supposedly you were planning on recording anyway. And thanks in advance for doing that! Have a fruitful workshop!
He all @ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam,
here is the call to participate to the IS-ENES3 survey on Model Evaluation Need of Earth System Modelling communities:
Assimila Limited has been contracted by the IS-ENES3 (European Network for Earth System Modelling) project to carry out a survey of model evaluation needs of European Earth System Modelling communities, including a wide range of stakeholders such as model developers, model users, evaluation data providers and infrastructure providers.
The output of the study will inform the future development of model evaluation infrastructure and tools in Europe and identify key requirements. The study is looking broadly at experiences of the community of model evaluation tools, including the European ESMValTool but also other tools.
If you would like to contribute to the survey, please complete the following Google Form https://forms.gle/gCqDrPzgBys57Hnc6 by 11 December 2020 and you will be contacted by Zofia Stott ([email protected]) of Assimila who will provide more details on how you can contribute to the survey (via a short interview or by email).
If you are willing to participate and encounter some issues to open the Google Form (e.g. due to your security system), please send directly an email to Zofia Stott ( [email protected] ).
Do not hesitate to share to anyone who would be interested !
Thank you!
@bouweandela is looking pretty serious today, surely a beer tomorrow will cheer him up  - don't forget about our social session tomorrow (beer session) which is at 830pm CET - @hb326 correct me if I got the time wrong, this UK-EU time difference is killing me

Haha, I'm becoming invisible...
@ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam Here is the zoom link for the drinks tonight, from 8:30 PM CET onwards!
Thanks everyone for an amazing workshop!
@ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam videos of the presentations at the November 2020 workshop:

Thanks again for your great presentations. These videos are available until end of 2020.
@bettina-gier, @malininae: The links to the recorded workshop presentations are posted now. Have fun watching! :)
Thanks a lot for recording it! @Peter9192 , could you provide links to the jupyter prototype notebooks here? It would be very much appreciated!
Yes sure!
