Esmvaltool: Monthly ESMValTool meeting - July

The next monthly ESMValTool meeting will be in July. The result of the poll is that it will be on

Thursday July 9 at 13:00 CET (12:00 BST).

Format and agenda

• We start the meeting by doing a round where everyone gets one minute to introduce themselves and tell what they will be working on in the next month or what they are struggling with
• Using the input from the introduction round, we can decide to talk about specific topics with the entire group or make smaller breakout groups to continue the discussion there.
• If you already know that you would like to bring up a particular topic in the meeting, you can link the GitHub issue to this issue so it's easy to find for other people in the meeting and we can already start discussing there before the meeting. Just create a new GitHub issue if there is no open issue yet.
• GitHub issues are our preferred way to communicate outside the meeting and keep track of work, so any feature requests/action items/etc discussed in the meeting should ideally result in a GitHub issue.

Thanks for attending everyone!

Here is a short summary

• We will postpone the deadline for submitting new features for ESMValTool v2.0.0 (e.g. recipes, diagnostics, cmorizers, anything that isn't a bugfix) to July 22nd. This will allow us to test the pull requests with the released version of ESMValCore v2.0.0, which will be released on July 20.
• We discussed about why we are using the released version of ESMValCore with the ESMValTool repository. The reason for doing this is to provide diagnostic developers with a stable and better-tested version of ESMValCore to develop their diagnostics against. For diagnostic developers who like to work with the latest features from ESMValCore, there is the option of installation from source. We have to make sure that we make ESMValCore releases often enough that diagnostic developers can use the latest features, but not so often that their are disturbed by breaking changes.
• @SarahAlidoost will organize a short meeting to plan finalizing the tutorial to the point where it can be given to a test audience.
• We would like to plan a first meeting with the future technical lead development team to look at how we could better share work like pull request reviews and making releases among team members
