There shloud be option to create post block layout and use it in Archive page.
Or create own skin with Elementor Theme Builder and use it with Archive Posts.

It would be great to have more layout options for blog archive. I would like the option
similar to this https://www.screencast.com/t/qQJq4CsO5R drag & drop option for the title, image, text, category and so on so we can reorder them as we want.

Anyone sharing same thoughts with me?

Are there plans to implement this feature request, if so, is it a priority? This would be a game-changer for a lot of us. Thanks!

+1

I am also really missing an option to show category in the Posts widget metadata. I've been waiting for this since the Posts widget was released.

+1 for custom layout options for blog posts / archives (separate options for post titles, featured images, excerpts, categories / terms, read more button). That way, we can style, reorder and place them as we want.

Beyond category option in meta data please include advanced custom fields option to be able to include custom fields attached to the post. This will be literally the most versatile solution to build virtually any type of listings.

@klarakalko Please add custom fields as an option in meta data to your ticket info. :)

+1 I can't work without the option to design the post "card" / "box" freely. we got have the option to repeat columns! (it will be very helpful for other situations also).

I should add it as another feature request, but it might be relavent to mention here too that adding the option to change design of a "class" and let it effect all other elements with the same class on the site (not only on the current edited page). just like that:
oxygen class edit
(Oxygen)

Btw - just saw that beaver builder has a custom layout option in ther posts widget, which lets you use code to customise the post block completely which is also a nice option.

Of course having the option to build that block visually like @pawelszroeder mentioned is a way better idea.

+1 on "Please include clickable category (terms) option in meta data field."

As stated, this is a key piece of meta that is standard for blog posts meta.

Add option to define target

The Posts widget has become incredibly powerful, however, one option is missing: the ability to open the post in a new window. It can be useful for using Posts with a CPT for external web sites for example, where such posts do redirect to the external web site. So please just add an option to set target :)

+1 this issue. We are a design group and need the option to customize, well, everything. Being able to build a custom layout archive block and create an archive/post list using that block is very important. Including, custom image sizes and putting the title above the image.

+1 very much needed now that we can edit the templates for single.
I would like to add ACF fields to block posts.

Looks like this plugin is the way to go:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/ele-custom-skin/

Anxious I am looking forward to you be able to add the possibility described above and advanced queries using custom fields as well. :)

+1

Found a good plugin , I think Elementor's Pro team can embed or use their codes to achive this feature sooner, its necessary!

The "ele-custom-skin" plugin has a lot of buggy stuff. still waiting for that must have feature!

@bentalgad what buggy stuff?

I don't think this is the place for that (it's not the original issue subject). i can try and retest to recall the problems and send on the support forum of the plugin (but im not sure ill have the time soon). one problem i remember now is weird width changes to the template, but again this is not the place i will try to find the time to post on the plugins support forum.

@bentalgad people are trying to help. If I can spare days of my free time to develop something for people to use it for free, please find a minute to report a bug.

I want this to be integrated in elementor also (with grid preview and all the stuff). It's not easy for me to do changes every elementor update.

is there any indication of the priority / or progress of implementing this as a core feature it really is a must and clearly has a lot of requests.

@dudaster your plugin is fantastic, exactly what should be in core, but when you set a dynamic image as a background in the skin it tries to reference the image from the current post, not the widget query.

I'm not sure if this caused by your plugin, or inconsistent application of the dynamic tags in Elementor (I see it has already logged on your github and you are aware of it) If this is not going to arrive in Elementor Core any time soon I know I would not be the only very grateful individual if you managed to fix this :)

I actually have a license for AE Pro, which provides this functionality with their post blocks widget, but I'm loathe to add that dependency to my projects as I am doing everything else with E-Pro, ACF and some of my own custom functions.

@dudaster, @bainternet just for some further insight here I activated my AE Pro to compare the output from the post blocks widget vs @dudaster's loop skins.

If I use the standard elementor dynamic tag to set an image as the background in the AE Pro post blocks skin the same issue of the image being repeated in every post occurs.

I then remembered that AE Pro has it's own dynamic backgrounds implementation and applied the featured image background using that, inside the loop skin I created using @dudaster 's plugin and it worked as expected.

This tells me that it is not @dudaster s plugin, but the elementor dynamic tags for background images which are at fault. Please could this be given some priority so that we can at least make full use of @dudaster 's amazing plugin, while we wait for a core implementation.

Hey Folks,

I would like ElementorPro to offer more advanced options to extend the design capabilities.
I'm referring to the Cards Skin & the dynamic Theme Builder.

Here're some ideas:
I have a custom post type that has some custom fields (using ACF for example) and some custom taxonomies, and I would like to have the below feature for a more dynamic website design.

1. User Avatar (Author):
I would like to have an option to replace it with any other dynamic "image" custom field.

2. Featured Image:
I would like to have an option to replace it with any other dynamic "image" custom field.

3. Custom Fields:
I would like to have an option to display my custom fields dynamically inside the card itself, with also an icon beside each custom field.
_e.g. to display more than a custom field after/before post meta or at the end of the card._
or the option to display any custom field as a badge.

4. Custom Taxonomies:
I would like to have an option to display my custom taxonomies dynamically inside the card itself, with also an icon beside each custom category/tag.
_( I know that it is possible to show any other taxonomy as a badge. but I would like to display more than one custom taxonomy as badges, OR after/before post meta OR at the end of the card._

5. Post Last Modified Date:
Similar to the "Published Date" in the meta data, I want to display the last date of the "Post updated/modified on", with also an icon beside it. WordPress function here

I believe this might open a new door for limitless customizations in the future.

Thanks.

+1 for ability to design an individual post from the Posts Widget.

@willcitizen since EP 2.1 they moved the background-image from inline to header and that's why is not working anymore. I'll look for a fix, but you must find a workaround meanwhile (like the way they use the image in classic skin). IMHO the dynamic values should be set inline. I'm trying to keep this plugin as clean as possible and not temper with the content, and I hope Elementor guys either keep this plugin in mind when they do changes or develop their own alternative custom skin.

Please add an option to implement a custom field to show a "kicker" or "overline" in addition to a headline either in the archive widget as in the single post widget. Explanation: a kicker or an overline summarizes the story (in one sentence), either above or below the headline.

Example:
bildschirmfoto 2018-09-04 um 12 42 55

That would be helpful for bloggers (me) and magazines (me) or news sites.

Thanks a lot!

So many references in other related issues, comments, lots of confusion ("postS widget" mentioned here and "post widget", where the issue is solved) and no one are assigned to solve the issue and no milestone is defined.

I wish we have an official word from the Development team to address the issue.
Closing requests in bulk without clear comments convey a message that the only thing that matters is marking checkboxes to show "problems solved" when in fact is "problem pushed to someone else".

As a pro user, who supports the development, I kindly request a better response to this. At least a statement with a plan.

I think I found a plugin that addresses this issue:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/ele-custom-skin/

Many thanks to Liviu Duda who developed it and made it available for free.

Archives are no longer limited to the Default and the Cards theme limitation.
And it does support Custom Fields.

@danielporto yes, Im using it too, but, biggest issue is, when you add custom skin, cant control styles in main widget, for example you cant change font size or image size etc.

You must go to loop template and change it.

but, that plugin is only option and works for now.

To start a rumor, I think this would be de main new feature in E.Pro 2.2

Please make it possible to sort elements by the custom field.

I'm using Elementor Custom Skin and it's good. However, I have designed
custom cards that are being ordered either by the publication date
or random, which doesn't make sense for the type of information that
I would like to present.

To start a rumor, I think this would be de main new feature in E.Pro 2.2

duda, seriously? I'm waiting this for long time, any dates?

Man, seriously?
closing circular issue reference?

5884 is closed referencing #4440

5881 too.

my issue was closed referencing both closed issue.

Who the hell manages this? Sorry for the rant but this is borderline disrespectful.

Ask Raz (@bainternet) about it, he knows for sure.

Ele-custom-skin with over 6000 downloads and 800+ active installations should be a testament that people(Elementor PRO users) really want this feature.

Meanwhile please give people inline background so they can enjoy what they have already, eventually you would need to add it back when you'll do the elementor version of this functionality.

When I ended up here I was looking for a way to include additional post type fields in the archive list because the "Archive Posts" widget doesn't have custom fields you can use yet... However I was able to make it work by overriding the excerpt.

function peter_excerpt_override( $excerpt ) {
    if ( is_admin() ) {
        return $excerpt;
    }
    $excerpt = "Listing ID: ";
    $excerpt .= get_field('listing_id'); //ACF gets value by field name
    $excerpt .= " replaced.";
    return $excerpt;
}
add_filter( 'get_the_excerpt', 'peter_excerpt_override', 999 );

I hope this helps you!

+1 on this!

wp bakery thingy has a _sort of_ gridbuilder. ui is awful, so please dont copy this! but its quite helpful to build customized items.
and as elementor does this things usually far better i am full of hopes :)

EDIT:
@dudaster has made a great step into this already with his skin plugin, for which i am really thankful! but actually its far too limited, sadly.

@bainternet I disagree that my Slide Widget Enhancement is related to this issue. This issue has to do with Post widgets. My enhancement request was to the Slide widget to dynamically add slides to the slider from posts.
In addition, I wrote the code and am offering it to you, the developers, since I do not have access to the pro github site....at least I don't think I do. Are you not interested in taking a look at my enhancement?
I am referring to issue #5965.

I'm asking for this as well. I too use Elementor Custom Skin but find there are some limits to achieving my goals. Some of these issues/ solutions might be separate feature requests, but I'll lay them all out here.

  1. Posts and Archive posts widgets are missing Query menu. I need to be able to sort the posts, which I can't do now using these widgets
  2. As of now if I try to Elementor Custom Skin and use a dynamic feature image for a column background (so I can use the center, cover effect), it does not work. It will pick up the first posts feature image and use that for every post. I can't tell if this is an element problem or an ECS problem.
    A) It would be cool if this were fixed and
    B) Image widget option could "fill" the column horizontally and vertically or set a size, and you could set the image to fill the center, cover or any of the options you get when setting a background image.
  3. When using CPT and ACF you might want to use a text field in the loop to display dynamic content, which you'd also limit the word count on.
  4. Add nth-child support so columns can be reordered with some intelligence based on how many posts displayed in a row.

Most needed feature! Still, wonder why Elementor team is still not even give a response! Adding +1

@seanvandermolen please add your comment on the background image problem to #5253, maybe it will help make this fix sooner.

I think ele-custom-skin has part of the solution--using Elementor's interface to design templates for Post Excerpts. This allows us to use all of the tools of Elementor, and integrate with ACF, Toolset, PODs etc to create custom excerpts/teasers.

I think the natural workflow for this is to create Custom Post Teaser Templates the same way you create Custom Post Templates, assigning them based on the same things you can use to assign the Single Post templates, like Post Type, Category, Tags, etc.

Then, the Archive module needs to have some sort of query builder/filter UI that allows us at least some basics like

Post type: Page, Review
Category: Movies

It would also be nice to be able to add custom fields and use comparison operators as filters. For instance, load a custom date field, and compare that to a specific time, or NOW, and that filters out Events that have already passed, etc.

Then a section that allows us to order by the same custom fields and comparisons that we can filter by.

The Archive module when then load whichever template was created as the Post Excerpt, and where none was created, would load the default excerpt that it does already.

Then, the final section would be the layout section, where we can choose the Teasers to display in list, grid, slider, masonry, etc.

People ask for this solution all the time in the Elementor Community FB group. I'm constantly posting links to Elementor custom skin. This should really be baked into Pro at least.

@anthonypero you said it all, and dont forget the offset too :)
i hope elementor team respond to this cuz its too important

for example i want to add estimated read time (cant show it in my post block) , i can't do it by elementor right now (maybe i dont know)

It is not a solution for me. I tried this plugin but I don´t want a loop because I need some different loops in a same page.

Other solution?

Maybe you must help us with a funcion that it add tags in Metadata.

I was excited very much when I discover Elementor, but now really surprised from may until now how this most requested and basic feature not added. Isn't it very understandable that we would like to display custom meta data value in Posts widget? If this is something hard for you, I can add fields even with ACF shortcode feature but even there is no custom content area in Posts Widget.

+1
Any milestone?

+1

Waiting for this. Currently using the Custom Elementor Skin plugin.

+1 so many comments ... when will we get this feature????

I'd also like to have a skins builder as a part of Elementor Pro package.

Now, we have only two skins in Posts and Archive Posts widgets - Classic and Cards. Ideally skins editor would leverage new standards like Flexbox and CSS Grid and offer full support for custom post types and fields.

It would be great if skins editor would support other widgets which could benefit from it. Creating custom skins for Portfolio, Slider, Box, Call to Action, Tab widgets etc. would be welcome. Now, all of them seem a bit restricted as there's not much flexibility in customization. I consider Webflow as a great example for user experience.

Elementor is revolutionary as it is but such improvements would make it even more attractive to professionals and creatives.

+1 for this feature from me too

I need to show Category of a post in a single post page, Is there a way to do that now?

I read this article today and am really surprised that the developers are not even taking part of the conversation. Am a pro user, but wow... how can you not take part of this discussion. Also surprised in how easy and fast @bainternet closes requests with no option of feedback at all..
I expect more of a developer team. No insult meant, but come on... this can be improved.

+1 waiting for long time...

+1

@bainternet I see you already were active in the mean time closing again a request. I hope you and your colleagues take this seriously because it can cost you members, the competition is not sitting stil and as we depend on the communication with you and about development of Elementor, please respond here about developments on this subject. So we can take this in account with our website developments

They said that they are working on it. It will be available when it is ready. Meanwhile use alternatives. You can help by coming with ideas here.

Elementor Team Marketing likes to keep things secret, as I've seen so far, regarding future releases. News about the Theme Builder was released a few weeks before it's beta release.

So be patient, it will arrive for sure. Let's hope it will be awesome.

Very welcome feature. Waiting for it as the most needed for my job with WordPress.

Would also be nice if it will be possible to show/hide custom fields and its associated label and/or icon depending on the field value _(i.e. hide field and label if field value is empty)_

@dudaster That's where the problem lies.
I agree with the marketing strategy that they are right not to divulge many details of the releases, after all, competitors may be able to afford more resources to try to launch the feature before and "steal" customers.
But throughout this thread, there is not even a reference that are working on it. And that's what I've been talking about lately, we do not want to push (nor do we have that power), but we'd be happy to know if they're working on it, or if it's just an idea for a day.

If you follow all the referenced issues you’ll find a post where bainternet said that they are working on it. I hoped it’ll had been in Elementor 2.3, but maybe it is to big of a feature and it will mark the third version of elementor.

LOL 😂 There were more than 20 references made only by the bainternet. You can only be joking, that I would need to visit everyone (already closed) to figure this out. Seriously, this is counterproductive.

Then you need to trust me.

Oh god. I'm not doubting you!
My point is, until you comment that they are working, anyone who follows only this thread did not have this information.

I am surprised that we should always read between the lines here and be some sort of detective to notice about future developments. Communication goes both ways, not simply like keeping a thread open or close it. That is at least what I expect from a paid platform. Is that really so weird?

Now that Gutenberg is integrated into the core and WordPress blocks are the new standard Elementor developers should focus their efforts into offering deeper level of customization. Ready-made widgets/blocks are emerging on daily basis everywhere. Besides skins builder discussed here, more powerful custom widget builder would offer unique value and take the Elementor capabilities to whole new level.

+1

I can't find this feature on the beta version of the plugin.

Hello.

I believe you go under Elementor > My Templates > Create New Template and select the Loop option in the dropdown
screen shot 2019-01-11 at 3 22 33 pm

Yes, but it is much better if that feature will be available on the plugin itself and not from 3rd party plugin especially for the elementor pro users. Best example would be a custom HTML option with custom tags.

Any ETA on a feature like this that would allow custom post meta to be used in the Post widget as is currently implemented in the Post Info widget?

I used to be a PageLines user for ages (hence my tattoo). But loving Elementor. This feature was included in PageLines5. It worked really well and had many of the features that people are requesting. I would love this feature as well. Since I see a lot of the same code and methods used by E in general, PL did this using the "foreach" callback function, I am sure this could be investigated. This is a video on the Loops feature. PageLines is pretty much a shelved plug-in now and in no way pushing this product but was really great for its time.

I think this could be the next step for a truly full immersive experience on theme building. We already have all the Dynamic widgets, we just need the custom skin option and a new template type to go along.

+1
A must have feature request.

+1.... Need to be able to customise post skins!

+1 from me as well on this. It's the last missing piece for us to leave Beaver Builder and adopt Elementor Pro for our agency.

I dont think this is a big deal for them, it is just simple item in Meta same as Date or other stuff.
Either they are ignoring or they have better things to do, but i hope they are going to add this soon...

quite disappointed to see this still open and with neighter any response nor a point in milestone.

Agreed! +1

+1 for creating Archive templates for CPT's, and being able to add in Custom Field elements to the post items/cards.

+1 Urgent!

+1 🙏🏻

+1 Very very urgent!

You can use 3rd party plugins that can acomplish this for you if you are in a hurry.

Do you have a suggestion of 3rd party plugins that we could use?

I'm using "Ele Custom Skin" which I thought it was working fine ... until 2 days ago when I tried to create a new loop with dynamic background image on a section and the image shows on Elementor editor but not on live website. I already spent hours testing and trying to find the source of the problem but with no success so far.

Just to give you an idea how frustrating this makes me feel:

  • I have a loop (loop 1) created some time ago which is working fine. I can see the section background image as I should.
  • 2 days ago I created a new loop (loop 2), exactly the same way and i can see the section background image on Elementor editor but not on live website.
Both are built exactly the same way, same settings and pointing to the same post. Loop 1 I can see the image on live website and loop 2 I can't.
Inspecting the code loop 1 has a css entry with background-image and loop 2 doesn't.

To make it worst, yesterday loop 2 started to work without me doing anything, so I though "YEY! It's working". Went back and tried to create loop 3 ... no luck, stuck again. Maybe tomorrow loop 3 starts to work! 😅

Just to point out "Ele Custom Skin" is not testes on WP 5.0, could be this plugin?

If you have any other idea on what I should try more to finde the problem please feel free to contact me because I'm getting crazy with this!

What other plugins I could use to do the same?

I Know ECS has isues with bg image, because of Elementor wich changed the inline style to header. Personally I'm using Call to Action widget if I want to use backgrounds.

Yes there are comercial plugins that offer something similar to ECS, I didn't test it myself but you can try it:
anywhere-elementor-pro, it has a widget Post Blocks, let us know if it worths the money and does a good job.

I need the same functionality and encountered the same problems with Ele Custom Skin so I decided to purchase CrocoBlock subscription. JetEngine plugin (included in subscription) allows the creation of custom listings and they also offer good support so I think it's the best solution at the moment.

I think I found the issue by accident ... well, not what's causing the issue but a workaround to make it work and maybe to find the cause.
So I found just now that loop 1 was in the bin, but present to to selection as a custom skin in the "Posts" widget. So I went and sent loop 2 to the bin as well and guess what ... it started to work. Restored both loop 1 and loop 2 and now both as working as expected.

Did the same to loop 3 and it's working to...

Going to activate now all other plugins and see if this workaround still applies.

What version of Elementor are you using?

What version of Elementor are you using?

I downgraded back to 4.9.9 but I'm going to update first to 5.0 and later to 5.1.
I'll post back the results.

I think you'r talking about Wordpress... I'm asking about Elementor.

I think you'r talking about Wordpress... I'm asking about Elementor.

Sorry I was 😅 Btw WP 5.0 same workaround solves the issue.

Elementor: Version 2.5.0-beta3 (beta3?? I don't remember signing for beta releases)
Elementor Pro: Version 2.4.5

I need the same functionality and encountered the same problems with Ele Custom Skin so I decided to purchase CrocoBlock subscription. JetEngine plugin looks very interesting!

I'll install the beta maybe they solved the issues with the background.

This tutorial will help you get started with this feature in JetEngine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuUqVE1Bxlk

Its the first of a three parter, with more to come. It pretty much solves most of my request (but not all). But I'd still like to see it in EPro, using a per post-type template that can be mixed. You can even create a search results page that way.

So what's the word on custom loops (without the need of a third party plugin) will it be part of the core?

Hello!

I see many comments on this subject.
I'd like to hear from Elementor's team when we're going to have Videos and Audio as Featured in Posts Archives. Videos in place of the featured image in the post and archive posts, according to issues 7021.

Do you have a forecast when this update will be released?

+1
Currently using ele-custom-skin but would love it to find a way to core!

+100!
Please implement something like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/ele-custom-skin/

Gaping feature gap right here, no Cats or Tags for Archives, no custom skins.

Desperately needed +1

Pro user

+1 We need a well designed and stable custom loop that can pull dynamic content.... PLEASE ELEMENTOR! PLEEEEEASE!!!!!

+1 this as well, I am currently using ele-custom-skin to fill the gap great plugin but not working correctly right now with current updates...

+1 we need this!

what kind of ETA are we looking at for this?

New feature after new feature, and this is still being ignored. Just give us the Archive Loop Template Designer!

+1 (times a thousand)

+1 please please add categories as a meta option. How is this not already included?

Let's not forget the custom fields for the Posts widget. All of the fields that result in text should have the dynamic feature for a start. Then it would be great to be able to add a new field in-between the fields in the layout.

+1 for having loop feature in core.

+100 We Need this Feature of Clickable Categories and Complete control over Elementor Post Widget. I have been experimenting with Ele SKin but it seems unstable I am afraid to use it on my site. I made the whole loop everything working fine then I changed to Elementor Full width and now loop shows no Title heading. We need something stable from Elementor Core it self.

+1 !!!!

Not sure if this is related, but I have a requirement to show the full blog posts on an archive page rather than just the excerpt. I've scoured the internet but can't seem to find a solution. Odd, because that is standard WordPress blog behavior!

+1

+1 While I really like that Elementor is introducing new widgets and features, I really think this request needs to take a higher priority. Being able to fully customize loop templates for posts and archives should have been in there from the start. Ele Custom Skin is a great workaround, but not a good permanent solution.

Yes, please have this inside core. Currently using Ele Custom Skin which works great for most cases though there are some small issues which we have to workaround for now.

Yes I want that!!!!

Do it :)

My issue (#7879 ) was merged into this one and after a little review I find that the functionality of the widget was a bit more expansive than this one so I thought I'd call it out. The way I picture it the widget supplies more than the functionality of the Post widget with templates. The looping widget would allow the template to be in a carousel/slider, in a portfolio grid and a posts loop. If you want paging you turn it on, if you want auto scrolling you turn it on and if you want a testimonial carousel you could set it to 3 wide and one tall and auto scroll, etc. If you want a portfolio grid you set it to 5 wide by 3 tall with a next button or whatever. Simply making the Ele Custom Skin a core component isn't enough functionality and flexibility.

C’mon guys, you merged a lot of tickets into this one and everyone is asking for this, for quite a long time, and nothing happens. No sign whatsoever!

Is it that hard to give us an estimate, I love that recent parallax feature, de absolute positioning and so on, but this is a core feature! It’s hard to understand how can you ignore so many paying customers.

Thx

If this is not implemented I'd request the following be prioritized.

-Dynamic data for Testimonial Carousel.
Testimony has dynamic data but for the life of me I cannot figure out a legitimate use case for it the way it is coded. It would require that it is on a page/post that IS the testimony. Perhaps the Testimony widget could be converted to be used as the skin/template for the Testimonials Carousel? Is there anybody that knows if the Testimonial widget can be used to accomplish a Looped / Carousel functionality?

-Update Image Carousel to use dynamic data and support multiple rows.

Now that I see how long this issue has been outstanding and now many people are requesting it, it would be nice to get an update. To me this issue is at the heart of the implied functionality of elementor. Seeing the single post templates and the site builder stuff, i just assumed this would be supported. Elementor is a "Template Everything / Dynamic Data Everything" ideal. A principal goal of mine is to keep all the Client, Testimony, Outcomes, Posts, Employee, Founder, Feature, App, Product, Portfolio information in pods and use Elementor to render it all out. Right now, due to the lack of this feature i find myself repeating information that is in PODs (breaking DRY) into widget configurations which makes the site much less maintainable and requires that I, rather than somebody that can be told how to add a POD, must be involved when entities are added. Can you knock this one out of the park for us. It is the natural conclusion of where you were headed with Templates. Feel free to make the other widgets data driven so that things are even easier when using them as well.

@dragoslup is right! This is no.1 request here (by the count of comments, participants or thumbs up).

I'm not saying we're demanding it right now no matter what. I can clearly understand that this request is the big one. But we deserve some notice at least! If I'm not mistaken, there's not a sigle response from Elementor here.

Are you working on it, is there some ETA, etc.? I know you are bit secretive about new features, but this one is a no-brainer, it is requested basicaly from the day Themer was released, everyone is expecting it. So, no surprices here, right? At least if you are not going to add it at all.

And I suppose you are aware, that this feature is possible with AnywhereElementor Pro. So it's definitely doable.

@bentalgad Noticed your posts about beaver builder and oxygen. Oxygen doesn't apparently have an integration with PODs but does the other post fields systems. Beaver appears to have more writing about it. Do you have enough experience with either of them to say if either is a clear winner for dynamic template driven design. Do either of them solve this problem. Looking at the videos its hard to tell.

After looking at it a bit beaver is not in the same league really but Oxygen has very similar capabilities in this area. More flexibility on the Posts widget which they call Easy Posts though it doesn't really just use a single post-ish template. It has issues filed for tracking the features necessary to make sliders/carousels fully dynamic. So it looks like Elementor and Oxygen Builder are in similar states on this. Though looking at the last Oxygen Release notes section it releases huge chunks of functionality every month which means it could have more man power than Elementor does and may be equipped to get all this stuff done quicker. Not sure... just a few hours of research here.

Would be great to hear from somebody at Elementor on this

Would be great to hear from somebody at Elementor on this

I guess the 74 participants on this issue deserve a decent statement from Elementor.

Nope, still nothing from Elementor. What perplexes me is that Livia from Ele Custom Skins already has created the base code...

Plus one again, since all the threads got merged.

@bainternet any news about this? We can't understand this silence. This is a needed and an "easy" feature
guys!!!

I submitted a support ticket to see if the support people could maybe get the engineers to look at this. I've rarely seen an issue with this much conversation not responded to by a commercial vendor.

@tobytraylor , please keep us updated!

It does seem a strange oversight, especially since the solution by Ele Custom Skin solves the problem so elegantly, and looks virtually native to Elementor. As it is the ACF content that I need to surface in the posts loop is out of reach without a 3rd party plugin, and I don't like third-party plugins for 'niche' requirements, they tend to become dormant more quickly than mass-market ones.

Is it normal for Elementor to ignore this channel, are they usually unresponsive here - or is this a rarity?

I was told today that this is on their roadmap, and when development is done, this thread will be updated. No ETA, sorry.

Still waiting for an update on this. Really need this feature. Should have been there in the initial release!

+1 for this 🙏

While everyone is waiting for Elementor to hopefully make this possible, please feel free to check out this plugin: https://nl.wordpress.org/plugins/ele-custom-skin/ at first site this plugin works great and does everything we want to achieve!

I think everyone on this thread uses or has used that plugin! My whole site relies on that plugin

It's a great technical solution, but unfortunately I can't risk client sites on a free plugin developed by a small independentertainment .. replacing it when the developer stops updating it would be too time consuming. There's just too much risk for my requirements.

140 comments to this issue. Hehe!

... yes, and counting!!

@dudaster - will the ele-custom-skin be further maintained until elementor comes up with a solution finally??? (which i hope will be really soon ...!)

@GertjanTanghe-KoomBanaBay actually that free plugin does a fraction of what i'm looking for. I don't just want a templated loop to generate a page section like posts does. I'm looking for something that will allow dynamic data to be used in a template that drives portfolios, sliders/carousels. I'm not looking for a toy, i'm looking for something to finalize the conversation of my site to being a data driven CMS. I need my clients to be able to input new data entries as POD items that show up throughout the site in all the different ways the design calls for.

Unfortunately, I have problem with Ele custom skin plugin. When plugin is active posts content does not showing. Also I can't edit my custom loop with Elementor, I only can use editing trough Navigator. I use Astra Theme, Elementor Pro v2.5.6, Ele Custom Skin v1.0.9

I find the problem. I added css:
.elementor-location-archive {display: none} to hide loop which showing on top every page on website (below header). Now is question why that part is showing on all pages?

@tobytraylor You should definitely take a look at toolset[1] - it is a complete solution for custom fields/posts/taxonomies. I use it's 'views' and 'content templates' and put them in place via elementor. Toolset is not "a toy". The learning curve is higher than with POD or AFC. But you can accomplish a broad range of things - even replace page builders (if you prefer pure clean html code over div orgies). Using Elementor in conjunction with toolset works pretty well for a complex project we're working on.

I would love to here your thougts about toolset.

[1] I could get a small commission if someone buys via this link

@tobytraylor Instead learning toolset, try make your projects in drupal, it's opensource and free. I don't trust (being sustainable long term) Toolset business strategy which is closed instead using a strategy like woocommerce.

wow, we now are way off topic ;-)

Actually i am a drupal developer/themer/sitebuilder and built my carreer and business on it. Nonetheless i tend to work more with WP now because of the lack of commercial driven plugins (and payed support if needed) and – maybe more important – the non existing API stability because since Drupal 8 API changes are introduced in minor versions which leads to massive problems in some of our projects (not only technical ones). Drupal is in fact more enterprise than WP. But i find WP in it's current phase more viable, efficient and effective for the majority of our clients.

I love both CMS and OpenSource software in general. Nevertheless, i have to make decisions in the interests of our customers. And their needs are different.

Toolsets business strategy is as it is. They seem to be long in the markets and i their plugin code is GPL V2. In fact their Plugins are very helpful for our teams projects.

Now let's go back to topic: I love Elementor. There are a lot of fancy shiny bling bling things which are needed to get a huge userbase. But i hope Elemenor will be focussed more on "sitebuilding" needs in the future.

We need Videos and Slides option in the blog articles pages. Equal refusal has in the DIVI today, see:

Unfortunately the JetEngine plugin itself is not advanced as AFC, Toolset fields and POD (small number of field types, lack of validation and so on...). Although its elementor Integration with their Elementor Elements is quite good. Maybe a solution for some use cases. I love JetBlog by the way.

But you can use them together. Again, a native solution would be ideal, however I have used custom posts with PODs and custom listings with JetEngine.
To this day, the only problem I had with this was a display order based on a custom field of the date type, so I had to turn it into a custom metabox inside JetEngine (however keeping custom post in PODs). Yes, I know it's nothing practical, but it was the simplest solution at the moment.

Can someone from Elementor please stop this infinite thread and build the feature already…

+1 I had to install the Elementor Custom Skin plugin to make a custom posts layout for a client website.

Please, add loop template for Elementor!

We need this badly!

I agree that we need this. Currently I use Anywhere Elementor (Posts Blocks) but it's clunky and most importantly, layout gets messed up in the translations (WPML) which makes it very unpredictable.

+1 I had to install the Elementor Custom Skin plugin to make a custom posts layout for a client website.

Yes. I used Anywhere Elementor before but it seemed convoluted and buggy and this is way more integrated solution. Thank you very much for noting it, it's quite possible you've just saved my ass. :)

Yes, being able to create a custom loop template with Elementor to display posts and custom fields in a grid or list is a must-have feature. 100%, a must-have feature. I am really surprised it wasn't here from the beginning. Being fairly new to building custom Wordpress themes I still found myself making these loops before I found started Elementor.

I just started using Elementor and I keep running into scenarios where I need this feature and it just isn't there.

Cheers!

I have been using Elementor for a while now and am totally surprised that the loop designer has not been included as of yet. Something sorely needed to round off the template builder functionality.

@dasigna of course I'll keep the ECS plugin up to date(I'm using it myself you know) until the Elementor team would come with hopefully something awesome...

I'm curios if they thought about things like odd/even or first last loop items. I wonder if it would be a new widget and how the css would be handled. I wonder if it would have the same freedom as ECS.

P.S. @bainternet told me if there is a large demand for #6287 they'll implement what I've asked for making css inline again to work with image background in a loop again.

+1

Hate to be that guy but...after skimming through here (and possibly missing this exact suggestion...)

Would be cool to consider how we might add conditional content to loops as well. i.e. show an advertisement or call-to-action every X no. of posts that also plays nice w/ pagination. I mean we are talking loops here right?

We can do this now w/ clever use of filter but requires php. A possible alternative is multiple post grid or post archive elements within an archive template which also carries the negative side effect of extra queries and has per page limitations too. Not sure if @dudaster's conditionals plugin could be adjusted for this but I think we not only need a loop builder but the conditionals part too.

Then we will be really close to a full-featured theme builder.

The lack of this feature is why I've been hesitant to use Elementor

Elementor guys made the changes asked at #6287 . Big thanks!
Now you can update Ele Custom Skin if you want support for dynamic background in sections and columns.
Although it is curently not working with scrolling/mouse effects, let me know if there is a potential to make them work,

Hi @dudaster, thank you so much for working on this! I am getting an error when I test:

Illegal string offset 'background_image' in ...\wp-content\plugins\elementor\includes\base\controls-stack.php on line 1174

I am testing with a very simple skin that only has a section with the background image set as the dynamic featured image and a heading widget with the post title. The post title renders, but the image does not.

_After thinking more . . . do we need to wait for Elementor to push an update for this to work?_

Please make sure you have the latest elementor version and any issues you have with ECS post it in https://github.com/dudaster/ele-custom-skin repository. I'll solve the error issue with an update.

Maybe, at some point, someone should fork Elementor and Elementor Pro. The code is GPL so you've the right to do so. You just need to change both the name and the logo of the plugin because "Elementor" name and "E" logo are probably trademarked. A guy forked WP Migrate DB Pro and called the plugin WP Sync DB... and it's 100% legal. Forking and keeping the same name is not legal though.

Like many others, I ended up being so frustrated by the way Elementor deals with developpers (no JS/PHP API documentation, no roadmap, abrut closure of feature request ("Currently, this feature is not supported, but we will look into it in the future if we see a large demand for it.") or crappy solution given (like using debug_bactrace in a WP filter to detect if used inside Elementor), multi-years rotting "open" features request with hundreds of comments, ...) that we ended up privately maintaining our own versions of Elementor Free and Pro to add some actions / filters / features that Elementor developers don't want to implement and that you can't implement with a plugin because of the lack of actions/filters/documentation. Most of the time it's just a single line of code but they don't want to add them so we ended up having no other solution. We implemented FontAwesome 5 in 5 hours whereas it took Elementor devs more than a year.

Your plugin is great but it should be part of Elementor. And they should give us a solution to show a specific template when there is no posts found ;)

@tristanleboss it seams that elementor is taking the path of giving the "dummy style" user what he want's (or what he thinks he want's) and giving the developers nothing but a headache. oxygen and beaver are much more developer friendly but they have there limits too, hope some one will make the best of all (Maybe Brizy btw which seems to be going there...)

A new major update as they call it, with nothing the community really requests...

GIVE US SOME FEEDBACK ELEMENTOR!?!?!?!?

Isn't it mind boggling that a highly requested feature since last year's May (1 year and 3 months!) is still not in the works? When I first started using Elementor, I thought it was great, until I started realising that there's a huge need to code custom skins, and how tedious it is when I needed to design multiple loops for multiple projects.

@tristanleboss @bentalgad @RudiVL @teoeugene

It took them 3 years to implement v.2.6 based on the #110 . Maybe because there were some other things more pressing than that in the pipeline, or maybe it's because of other issues we don't know, I can't really tell, do you?

I'm sure there is a reason, and since none of us know their roadmap. It's not on our shoes to say how and when they need to do their work. Yes there is a demand for this and I'm sure they are taking note on this issue, but maybe, just maybe it would help more if you just +1 on this matter instead of whining about it. It's getting tiresome to receive notifications about people complaining. You don't work there, you don't know what's going on. We really don't know what the majority of the community wants because we are just a fraction of all the customers they have, but we sure as hell know what WE want and that's it. That's not enough to understand what are the company priorities here. So please, if you will, keep this thread as civilized as possible. Complaining and guessing things isn't helping. I thought I wouldn't need to come here to say this, but this is getting really annoying.

Instead of complaining, how about contributing like @dudaster did?

@zeinnicholas we don't there road map because they don't bother share it, and we do know that they keep adding a lot of features we don't need and none of those we really really need like this one and a lot of others.

@tristanleboss in the next couple of versions I would implement no results template. Just tell me an instance when this(no result) occurs.

@bentalgad, how do you know what the users really need? Do you think the majority of users are on Github??

@elasticeye Elementor keep saying they hear the "community". who is the community?

Certainly not just Github.

It's plain simple: they develops Elementor for the average joe. They just don't give a damn about developers and power users... but it's really annoying when you are such a user. Unfortunately, this strategy probably pays so they have no reason to change.

No roadmap, no JS API documentation, lack of some actions/filters to hook on, pull requests not merged, feature requests closed or never implemented, ...

For sure, you can be on their side... as long as you have no specific expectation toward Elementor, it's fine, indeed. But, once you will require a crucial feature for your projet, you will probably switch side.

We have to maintain a private fork for our sites just to implement some simple one-line feature (adding actions/filters, converting some fields to dynamic, ...).

I hope Gutemberg will reach Elementor at some point. Automatic have the financial ressources to reach such a goal. This way we will have a really community-driven page builder.

@elasticeye They ask for features on their FaceBook group... but it seems it was as useless as this GitHub.

Hey, it would be great if you could extend this to include social share icons to work. I tried modifying widget to have dynamic field and to point to POST URL but that didn't work. What i did for quick solution is i installed php anywhere plugin and created this code inside post loop with your plugin

<a href="#" onClick="MyWindow=window.open('https://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=
<?php echo get_permalink( $post->ID ); ?>','', 'width=600,height=300'); return false;">
<i class="fa fa-facebook-official social-share" aria-hidden="true"></i></a>

And this works pretty well

Have you tried with shortcodes?

Please make sure you have the latest elementor version and any issues you have with ECS post it in https://github.com/dudaster/ele-custom-skin repository. I'll solve the error issue with an update.

@dudaster I've posted an issue there as requested just flagging it here.

https://github.com/dudaster/ele-custom-skin/issues/37

Since updating to the latest versions of all plugins dynamic fields from ACF of type text area and WYSiWYG are no longer being loaded onto the page (As a test I've reverted to a more simple text field type from the same post type and this works). Very happy to report that dynamic background images is working a treat though - finally my last dependency on Anywhere Elementor Pro is gone :)

@djekanovic @willcitizen A new update is out. Hopefully will solve both your problems.

Wow, Oxyqen 3 will have a "loop designer" which is visual (page builder) builder for any kind of loop (posts, acf repeater, anything!!!) that should be the solution in Elementor also!

You have to see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZCeVLpZ8is (11:53)

The most awesome feature in the new oxygen IMHO is to be able to create gutenberg blocks.
That is the future! So elementor think of the future!

@dudaster - absolutely! seems to be the most glitch-free feature for setting up sites for clients (while deactivating elementor for them of course...).
together with a loop templater and the ability for creating custom skins for posts etc. natively in elementor we would be well prepared for this bright future!!

-> so come on elementor guys: Get it on!!

Oxygen will be better than Elementor after this 3.0 update... At their speed rate, Elementor devs? will probably need 5-10 years just to implement repeater fields :D

Oxygen should create a free version so they can compete with Elementor in terms of number of users.

Let's not start compare apples with pears!

I suggest everyone start posting on Elementor's social networks about this very important issue for all of us. Who knows, in front of thousands of buyers, they pay no attention.

I made it. Anyone who wants to help comments there:

Hi there!

I just registred to Github to participate in this issue. I think it is totally necessary to implement in Elementor ASAP. I'm a web designer. We want this to make websites totally unique (again). Isn't it the spirit of Elementor?

Thank you very much to @dudaster. I was searching during days till I found your plugin.

What were the keywords you were using? It was hard to find?

Yes, it was so hard. I first found this issue and the link to the plugin inside.
I don't remember much words: Post miniatures / Custom Post types archive / + Elementor.

ELE Custom Skin does what you need. Elementor Extras also has an option.

This should be baked into elementor. Some plugins that cost twice as much as elementor itself do this but its a basic function elementor itself should have. And if platforms like Divi offered it it would literally be the deciding factor between me purchasing Divi or Elementor.

@JamesDeegan I am agree with you, the more time goes by the more I ask myself the question of staying on Elementor PRO, the latest developments indicate that the Pojo team is not in phase with the demands of its PRO customers. :-(((

Yes, I know. I am using ELE Custom Skin. But I would like to see this featured inElementor (or Pro).
I really don't underestand why the Elementor team isn't working on this. For me this is a must need function. Much important as many new functions added to Elementor's updates.

Yass, pretty please. 1+

really, really confused about this!
on best bet this might be in some 3.0 version or so - if ever.

@dudaster has done a great job with his plugin and offers some pro version meanwhile - maybe elementor ist thinking "why bother if theres an external solution"?? dont know ...
even possible that @dudaster has some secret deal with el not to provide it by themselves? who knows ;)

@dudaster has a good plugin but theres no way to do things like open a custom quick view popup if your using it for woocommerce product loops. Theres no way to actually get information from a custom quick view button to a popup. Thats the problem im currently facing. Anyone know a work around? (popups are still too limited in elementor for this dynamic behaviour)

@dasigna LOL .
@JamesDeegan Don't get your hopes up. If/when it gets released it will not have all the functionality you want.

So until then... use whatever plugins you can find and your imagination to do your projects.

To all the people here, keep in mind Elementor it's not just a plugin that offers you everything you want; Elementor is a platform where other devs can build upon it and make it better. Their team are working hard to give devs like me more freedom and tools to make out products better and stable.

We all want some functionality and probably some of your request I'll build them myself, being part of the community and with dev knowledge I can do that.

Keep in mind there are hundreds of plugins that have nice features that would be nice to have them as a "core feature" but this is a tremendous task to please everyone by just one small company.

I think Elementor should make a Plugin "Market"/"Library" with Elementor plugins that would help people find easier the features they want instead wondering through internet and searching for a functionality they don't even know how to search it.

This strategy would help Elementor grow as a platform and not just another plugin that can be replaced by something "cooler".

Just my two cents.

@dudaster - jeah. good point and well said.

but keep in mind that elementor is claiming itself as "the world's leading wordpress page builder". and not only that - but also a themebuilder ... to "edit every part of your site without code" etc.

i do not blame them or anyone else, i just wonder why theres so less communication regarding such features as discussed here.
as to the loop item designer: why does this seem such a complicated thing to at least communicate about it and further on why does it seem to be so hard to implement when obviously theres such a big demand and you are able to do it (not meaning your capabilities fall behind anyone elses! :) )? and: regarding a most useful (!) feature that other builder have already a long time??
quite stunning - isnt it?

the biggest point is in fact not the one thats its not there by now.
the biggest ones are that there are lots of designing things going on for shiny websites and theres not even a timeline or alike for crucial functional things like the loop templator ...

at a minimum i would at least expect to read something about their future plans to such features somewhere ...

elementor ist a great tool, no doubt. and is has grown in an great way with lots of efforts and gives great possibilies. but i really wonder why they do not focus more on such highy demanded (!) functional parts for pro ...
no offence to anyone - just to point it out.

@dudaster i disagree to be honest. Elementor is a templating system that makes building your theme and website easier. Most websites clients want you to design them a blog or a webshop. This means that the most simple loop item of a site needs to be customisable. I mean come on. This is surely obvious. The point in a page builder is to build pages, the main page on almost any site is the shop or blog page. I must say great plugin man, im busy destructuring it to serve my own needs to hook into a popup for a quick view. And i agree that the private devs are very much needed to make elementor great. But somethings should be officially baked into the engine like being able to template everything natively. it just makes sense

9164

maybe same category?

to be honest currently i dont really understand whats the benefit of being able to create custom archives for posts and categorys in woocommerce without being able to style them accordingly...?
maybe i am missing something.

@dudaster's ele custom skin is a huge thing but it absolutely doesnt help for woo grids - there are simply no points to hook into :/

elementor should consider this too and finally make up their minds imho.

Is there an ETA on this? I got here from ticket #4885, which describes better what I'm looking for. I need to display custom fields in the meta data on the post feed element. Thanks!

Absolutely necessary! +1 for this. It is not only about the web design, but it is also to keep the website with as fewer plugins as possible. Such a basis for designing custom websites feature is time to come in Elementor Pro.
I hope the Team from Elementor is still reading the threads on GitHub.

It would be really nice if any of this was in the Elementor Documentation. It's a bit of a shame that there are options for custom skins but no clear way on how to develop your own unique skin.

@OffCorner
you wont find it in elementor ducumentation because its third party - the skin option is not a native one.

have a look here.

I would like to be able to remove the comma's between tags in a single post, because now you can't really style the tags and the comma's just look really ugly. Anyone has an idea on how to remove this with custom code until the feature is added?

Support actually send me here, but I just found a work around for anyone looking for this. Instead of selecting 'Terms' in the Type field, select 'Custom'. Then select Dynamic Field 'Post terms'. Now you can click on the icon to get extra settings including which seperator to use.

This will load all terms in inline, you can't style them.

This request has been merged with this thread. I would love people to be able to share my content to read later from the posts widget. I typically share 50 words as an excerpt in the widget, enough for a reader to decide they want to share the post and read later. Sharing icons in the widget for each post would enable the reader to do this. from what I can see this is common with other websites.

Being able to display custom fields in post archives would allow us to build much more complex websites with all kinds of listings instead of just blogs/magazines. This should be a priority.

Posts in WordPress should not be viewed as just articles. WordPress is used for all kinds of websites.

Let us select custom fields in meta setting. This simple addition would add more value than 10 new "cool" widgets.

Elementor is great but i think it has one big problem - It looks like the new features are planned by a marketing person instead of someone who is actually using Elementor to build real websites.

The absolute basics are neglected and "flashy" new features are prioritised. I've build about 100 websites for clients with Elementor and it's pretty frustrating to keep seeing new releases that add only a little bit of value when some of the most needed basic stuff, that would add so much value, seems to be sidelined.

It always feels so wrong having to mess around with 3rd party plugins to get some basic functioanlity. Plugins should be for the niche stuff, not for the basics.

PLEASE, cover the basics, allow us to build all kinds of websites by embracing CPT and ACF, then focus on the "cool" stuff.

so sad it's december 2019 and I'm still reading this...

Since elementor's team isn't paying any attention to this github project and people are in the same annoyed state that i found myself in i thought i'd recommend Oxygen Builder for people that still want a wysiwyg style editor but more flexiblility than Elementor. I used it's repeater component to get around many of the annoyances i've had outlined in this thread. But then i found Gatsby.js and it's a react static site building framework and i'm never turning back to wordpress or a themebuilder style wysiwyg again. I recommend looking into Gatsby if you're comfortable with coding your site and are familiar with React or want to become familiar with React. I host for free using gitlab as the cms repo, and using it's CI facility to build and publish to firebase hosting. Best of luck everybody. I spent a year frustrated with both elementors drawbacks andelementors inability to participate in forum that it set up. If you want the builder then Oxygen has a very active Facebook group which is nice.

It's 2020. Can we still not open posts widget links in a separate tab?

Yesterday I read about the milestone for Elementor: 4 million active installs!
They asked: what feature would you like to see in our next release? Well: THIS ONE!
For a couple of days now I have tried to make an events list, to show different activities at different venues. Things I wanted it to do:

  • Mark post as "draft" or "private" when expired (maybe this will be possible in a future version of WP, just like you can schedule a publish date). All plug-ins that do this (the ones that I found) are dated.
  • Custom post fields (with CPT and ACF)
  • Custom post lay-outs in Archive view
Somewhere I got stuck, so I temporarily opted for an event scheduler.
But things I would really like in Elementor:
  • Further customize posts-layout in Archive view (as addition to "classic" and "cards")
  • Add a dropdownmenu with additional dynamic content to posts in Archive view

Example (possibly with a featured image on top or on the right side)

Until they release it built in. You can use "Elementor custom skin" it does exactly that, you create custom loop (and yes you can use ACF fields) and then when you bring "Archive Posts" widget you choose custom and then select your loop. I am using it for many websites it's my main plugin for these advanced sites.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/ele-custom-skin/

Here is example of the loop i designed with it. All fields dynamic with ACF

I was able to change the posts widget to my liking using elementor hooks :

  1. elementor/widget/render_content
  2. elementor/element/posts/section_layout/before_section_end

Its not the perfect solution but will be a good temporary fix for now.

Very impressed with the code and thanks for the help, but Ele Custom Skin did the trick for me. (Though, I used a different plugin for the events-page). I don't know much about coding (except some really basic html I learned in 1999 XD), so I'm pretty much stuck with patches and plugins that do as much as possible. Since a lot of plugins also means a slower page, I try to keep the amount of plugins to a minimum. But thanks and I still hope Elementor will get this feature eventually. (And Wordpress the possibility for native support of custom post types and order by each column.)

The more we say Ele Custom Skin does the job, less they will develop their own system, you know that?

The more we say Ele Custom Skin does the job, less they will develop their own system, you know that?

You're right. They are lazy to bring this feature(filter bar) to Post widget from its Portfolio widget.

(Edit: removing my other question since it was a ridiculous oversight, but still have this other one...)

@djekanovic Looks great, but I'd like to be able to create my own layout template in PHP and HTML, instead of one built inside Elementor. It doesn't look like Ele Custom Skin allows that?

+1

Custom skin template builder would be amazing!

Ele Custom Skin is way too limiting. You can't even do infinite scroll.

And you can do it with classic skin?

And you can do it with classic skin?

Your right, I guess the basic Elementor posts don't support either. I use Ultimate addons for Elementor for my posts usually and it supports infinite scroll, but don't support custom fields, which your product does. But i need both for a project!

Build infinite scroll into your plugin and I will buy pro right now.

https://dynamic.ooo/ Will give you both (custom skin and infinite scroll)

But generally i think Ele custom skin is better :)

It will be in the future I guarantee it.

The ACF Repeater is by far more important :) Waiting to see how you do it (probably much better then Dynamic & Advanced Elements)

Imagine ECS for ACF repeater! Imagine ACF repeater inside ACF repeater! Imagine Elementor User template! Imagine Elementor User template with ECS for ACF repeater.

ECS future features: post row designer template(free version, no more boring grid all sides equal), alternating post row designer(you can design each row as you wanted to be), user select grid layout (1 per row or selected grid), woocommerce queries, intercalated queries (ex: post1 query 1, post1 query2, post2 query1, post2 query2, etc.) so you can design a dynamic content page (like first page) only with one widget.

Big plans this year! I'm listening for suggestions from all of you guys.

I'd love to see the ACF Repeater. It'll be great if we could also easily get objects from posts relationships in ACF/Pods

Ive been working with Ele custom skin, but feeling its slowing things down comparing to the default post widget, both classic and cards!

Massive +1 from me. I just want to template out a loop for custom post types. Something like Crocoblock JetEngine

This would be a game-changer! +1

Hello and thank you so much for this.
Could you be king enough and tell me where to add that code?

Thank you so much again

Since I still have Beaver Builder sites I ended up just installing BB Pro and Beaver Themer on top of Elementor which enables their Custom Post Loop layout option which I still think is the most versatile way to use ACF and Post Loop to show practically any data and use conditional logic to show specific info based on those fields.

The only downside is the specific page would have to be built with BB instead of Elementor.

There is at least 5 addons that saw the need for this and provided a solution. Why is it taking so long for Elementor?

Building custom post loop is becoming standard in other page builders.

I hope Elementor is working on this.

Okay. This is open since 2018. Did they give up on this?

This issue has been here since the day one of the Theme Buider. Concidering the fact, that AnyWhere Elementor Pro had this feature even before native Theme Builder was even introduced, it's quite unbelievable, it hasn't been introduced yet.

On the other hand, I understand that this feature should be designed wisely. For now I don't use any of the similar features provided by the premium plugins I own, maily because these solutions drastically raise the depth of the DOM structure, which raises the DIVception above the level I'm able to tolerate.

So I hope, before this feature is itroduced, Elementor somehow manages the number of nested divs, othervice it would stay useseless to me.

I suppose, the unbearable number of the nested divs is also the reason for limiting the number of nested sections to 1.

Hopefuly it will be resolved one day. But I'm afraid the day is far away, I'm losing my faith, like many others here... :-(

basically more and more feeling the same way as @black-eye ...

partly loosing my hopes to see this getting done - and have it done the right way.
dont know what elementor thinks about this. if they were working on it there should be at least some hint or communication. but neighter on this request nor on other popular ones theres any prospect or forecast.
errors like the infamous color picker one are still there. and so on.

so to be honest - where is elementor going to? at the moment it seems to me as if several others are overtaking left and right in crucial points. where is elementor?
still no archive loop. building archives in general is still far too limited (in elementor!).

wondering where this is going to. even wondering how long i am willing to wonder ...

so to be honest - where is elementor going to? at the moment it seems to me as if several others are overtaking left and right in crucial points. where is elementor?
still no archive loop. building archives in general is still far too limited (in elementor!).

wondering where this is going to. even wondering how long i am willing to wonder ...

Elementor has been hugely disappointing lately. Especially when you look at how fast other page builders and 3rd party plugins are advancing. I think they got drunk by their marketing success and are pumping more and more recources into their marketing efforts. They got 15M investement and I bet they will spend big portion of it doing more marketing content etc.

I would like to believe they will release something big soon, but I'm sceptical. Even releasing the new color picker, which is a tiny feature, was a painful process with many bugs, some of which are still there.

And btw, I don't blame the devs, they probalby don't have enough resources. I think the leadership is losing focus on what matters.

You know... page building. Not podcasts, not articles, not new animations and other "cool stuff". But the boring things like custom post types, meta fields, building custom archives, having decent nav menu widget, performance optimization and many other things that people, who work with Elementor, actually need and have been asking for for years, only for Elementor to constantly prioritize other things that look good but are much less important.

In 2018, in this same topic, I had already said that those who are facing Elementor do not care about the website developers, who use the tool daily.
Obviously, we do not have the rights to require features, but we would like to know if feature requests with great popular appeal will be answered in the near future (months) or distant (1, 2 years). But we have only silence.
I could not agree more, the focus seems to be only in marketing and some other fluff, and all we ask is forgotten.

I think you guys need to relax for a second. A dev a month ago had mentioned on the elementor site they're working on this. It will definitely come soon! Can't wait!

I'm curious @portrayaloflife , can't wait too.
I agree with @black-eye and @MichaelDarko

Now I use extra plugins (a.o. ele custom skin) to add extra's to Elementor. It works, but is should be in Elementor and no need of several extra plugins.

_who_ did menition _what_ and _where_ exactly???
too good to be true?

btw. - we are relaxing already several seconds ... :)

I also would love this to be a core feature. I mentioned it above. Just get ele custom skin. Works great, I love it. The developer is awesome too.

Is that a fake news? I am deeply disappointed to Elementor dev team and their leaders.

basically more and more feeling the same way as @black-eye ...

partly loosing my hopes to see this getting done - and have it done the right way.

Elementor devs can't implement filter bar to post widget EVEN there is already an existing filter bar functionality in their Portfolio widget. I bet some key developers had left from core team of Elementor so that they can't even learn how to copy that code.

+1
Need that!
Right now i'm trying to ad category from acf taxonomy into el-designer but acf field is not diplayed on dropdown list.
So I need that LOOP tool in Elementor Pro.
Thanks!

To be honest: Meanwhile i'm not missing this. There are so many great add-ons (plugins) for elementor that are doing these things any many more very well.
Like @dudaster s Elementor Custom Skin (Free Version available) or dynamic.ooo

Elementor Custom Skin is not so useful. Right now I try to display only first category (taxonomy) on badge of post who's present on multiple categories and subcategories, but I don't have options.
In Elementor this is default option on posts widget.

I use Listing Grid widget linked to Jetengine Listing loop template from Crocoblock along with its Posts Navigation widget. Pretty Good, I think it's very worthy to try though they're paid plugins.
Disclamer: I am not promoting. I just bought their lifetime plan, actually you can avoid paying annually for Elementor Pro by using some 3rd party plugins.

I also recommend using JetEngine for creating custom post types, meta fields and custom loops(listings). It's absolutely amazing.

Let's hope Elementor implements these powerful features soon.

hmmm ....

honestly i dont recommend it, amazing as it may be in some points. at least unless you are aware of the culprits!
at first, oviously theres no possibility to hook into existing cpt environments - sadly.
second one is, there seems to be some serious 'lock-in' factor. if you decide not to use (pay for) jet at some point in the future, you're deeply stuck.
i wont judge the price side. this is up to each ones personal considerations. but personally i wont bulk up payments to an unlimited extend.
and at the end of the day my experience in terms of support with them wasnt at a point where i would have said 'it couldnt be better' ...

so basically (at least to me) this is no good alternative.
i prefer to register my cpts myself and use acf. this is far more flexible and safe. for the custom loops ele custom skin is of great help.
all other things have to be within elementor in my honest opinion - up to designing our own custom archives in every which way.

so this leads us back to the topic: the customisation of all this has merely to be within elementor. nothing half baked. full integration. period.

for the worlds leading wordpress page builder (not to say 'theme builder'!) this is mandatory - imho :)

I think the ability to create your own SKIN or Custom Loop is a game changer. The post grid widget also needs the ability to add a FILTER like you can with Portfolio so if you are using Custom Post Types you can easily filter.

FOR EXAMPLE

FILTER: ALL / Residential / Commercial
And see all the properties like:

IMAGE
Post Title
Price / Location
Another other CPT

Can't believe this is not yet built in Elementor Pro. We need more customization for posts listing.

Oxygen allows for this using a custom template editor. it's just a text box with html and template variables. makes it very easy to customize it. Why not copy that?

Any news? 😴😴😴

Any news? 😴😴😴

i fear there arent any. sadly.
use dynamic.ooo meanwhile. quite promising and good experience so far. support is on line.
recommendation at this time - and superior because glitch-free over crocoblock :)

  3. wanted to Style for each item too.

Can you help, please ?

  1. You can't remove commas generated by Post info widget from Elementor Pro, you can see the DOM, commas between items is not wrapped by HTML inline tags.
  2. Prefix to terms: In fact you can use pseudo element ::before to achieve this, use css selector to operate HTML tag of each term.
  3. Style them: Use css selector too in custom css.

Actually I use Dynamic Terms widget from paid Jetengine plugin from Crocoblock. It's much better than that one from Elementor Official.

Thanks @realstephenzhao

I am able to do it with your suggestions..i think if these possibilities are there in module, people will be able to achieve the desired layout easily.

Thanks for your support :)

Any updates on this? Please?

Also bumping this up to remind the team. This is a feature that would make elementor even more powerful.

We have to make sure filters are added as well though, not just the loop.

This is by far one of the most requested features. They know. Most likely will be in the 3.0 release, but I have no way of knowing that.

It sounds like an oversight on your end as it's not advertised. There are also workarounds mentioned in this thread.

Keeping this thread going... I have been hoping for this feature to be on the updates for nearly 2 years now. I would use it on all my websites if possible. How can it take so long?

+1 for Categories and Tags in the metadata field.

Some business advice for Elementor:

I just paid $265 for an unlimited yearly plan at Crocoblock

Why did I pay more for addons for Elementor than for Elementor itself?

Because Elementor alone can only build a small fraction of websites our clients want.

Elementor can only be used by professionals because the addons make it possible. Addons are now providing so much core functionality and are growing rapidly, while Elementor seems to be stuck.

You've made a great "page" builder. It's time to make a "website" builder.

Elementor, give us something like JetEngine natively in Elementor. (Custom posts + Custom fields + Listings interface)

You can't make a "website" builder without theese things.

Relying on multiple other plugins shouldn't be a norm.

Do you understand how much value is there in this? Do you understand people would pay you in gold for this? Do you understand how many people need this?

Fancy widgets will wait, this is the next step you need to take to change the game.

Gutenberg will soon be a decent page builder for most users. Elementor needs to become much more powerful - a tool for professionals who build all kinds of websites.

You've made a great "page" builder. It's time to make a "website" builder.

Exactly

Hi. I wanted to chime in here as I got the below comment when talking to support about this.

As a current working alternative, we've seen mentions of the ELE Custom Skin plugin for this particular scenario on our existing feature request GitHub page. As our developers gather more feedback on this (as this feature is already available in the mentioned addon/plugin), you can consider using this plugin for this functionality in your case.

I've played with ELE Custom Skin a bit and it looks like a good and useful plugin with good support (props to the author). That being said, and the way I understand it, it will call a loop template for every single item. This can be costly depending on what you are trying to do and how many items you are displaying .

I just wanted to bring this point up as I really would like the developers to make this a priority. I actually thought something like this was possible and researched more than normal because I couldn't believe it wasn't. I think this is essential for trying to do a full theme build in theme builder. Anyways, my two cents!

an archive loop item template designer is by far the best feature request for elementor I've ever seen

I primary use Crocoblock for that and pay 55$ a year

As far as I have heard in the current beta phase, they are probably working on making this feature available soon, as part of the new theme builder.

Which I would very much appreciate because this is long overdue.

hmmm ... "...probably...".

as much as i wish it would be true, in fact i fear it isnt. at least not at all 'soon'.
these hints are _very_ vague and upon direct and repeated questioning towards support theres nothing to confirm this might be really the case. to be honest just quite the opposite ...

so better not to have high hopes on this - i fear it wont happen anytime soon.

just pure speculation too on my side. (would be glad to be proven wrong nonetheless).

@arielk It's just a shame in this thread here is almost no feedback. As you can see from the very frequent inquiries, everyone has wanted this function for a very long time and very intensively. I'm waiting until it is finally released. Maybe 3.1? Maybe 3.X? Maybe 4.0 or 5.0?
You could say if you're working on it at all. It would be nice if you simply implemented the TOP 10 of the most requested and commented requests here on Github. (https://github.com/elementor/elementor/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+sort%3Acomments-desc)

Hi,

Thank you all for sharing impactful inputs. please try to keep this thread for feature-related comments.

We are aware of all of the top feature requests you all raise, follow them, and we DO want to implement them in Elementor soon.
That's being said, we want to provide a truly thorough solution, which will be convenient usable and will provide the best experience. This is the reason for this (and more highly requested features) are taking more time than others.

We can assure you that this feature is in our roadmap and we will implement it in the future.

If you have more constructive inputs to share, such as how you see this feature being implemented and more capabilities regarding this one, please share them here. although we are not commenting here we do read and collect your thoughts.

Once the feature will be ready we will update this thread with a milestone.

Thanks again.

Hey @shilo-ey ,

Thank you for your answer. Sorry, I was maybe a little more critical now, because I thought I wouldn't get any feedback anyway.

Of course, it shouldn't seem like I'm not satisfied with Elementor at the moment, but I just wanted to make it clear that some important and essential things are still missing in existing widgets such as the post widget or the possibility to set our own post/design portfolio grid.

But that all sounds good so far. Unfortunately the Elementor community is sometimes not so patient and due to the fact that a few things are still missing to really work with Elementor (Pro) only, without third-party plugins.

I think it's also due to the fact that some requests were made on Github a few years ago and many are wondering why it takes so long, especially when SO many want it.

But yes, I'll let you do your work! Have a good weekend!

thank you all.
for now...hello crocoblock

thank you all.
for now...hello crocoblock

jep.
the time being the waiting option obviously is not given ...

depending on the actual needs just using

  • ele custom skin (most recommended for the post grid things)
  • crocoblock (personally only for woo)
  • dynamic.ooo (for the more dynamic needs)

nevertheless i'll keep an eye on this closely and will be glad of an inbuilt solution whenever it may come.

I need to add ACF meta data to my post grid layout

Hi @philmatt

I need to add ACF meta data to my post grid layout

I use ele custom skin for post grid layout, really like it.
You can use ACF fields and make your own layout.

Please also consider releasing this feature along with custom posts and meta fields interface.

Basically just do what JetEngine from Crocoblock does.

Create post type -> Create meta fields -> Build listing/archive loop

Then we would finally have a complete website builder.

The whole concept is so simple and powerful, but the need to "assemble" the functionality together from multiple plugins and stitching it all together makes it feel so complicated. Bringing this "under the hood" would make any page builder 10x more powerful.

Currently, Elementor is a page builder and a theme builder. Releasing custom posts, meta fields and listing/archive loop interface would make Elementor a website builder (like Webfllow for example).

I think it would be great for Elementor to do some deep first principles analysis of what a website builder should be. Great example of this approach was Tesla Battery Day. Do something like that for web building.

YES YES and again: YEEEES! This is what Elementor so much need.

As almost everyone else has already stated. This really is something that is needed more than many of the "Features" that were included in the 3.0 release. Managing the information presented and the visual design of archives/listings is critical to many websites. The fact that I can design with complete flexibility almost every other aspect of my site (headers, footers, pages, posts, popups, etc), it seems weird that such a basic, fundamental component has been left out in the cold.

After nearly 300 Comments and countless citations from similar requests, can we at least get a response from someone on the dev team as to the progress (if any) that has been made towards actualising this glaring omission in a so-called "Theme Builder"?

I know there have been some responses from the dev team assuring people that it is "on the roadmap", but surely as the 3.0 rollout demonstrated, a need for good communication/transparency with your users is key :)

Please take my comments as 'excited encouragement'. I love what Elementor has delivered thus far, and I want to see it mature into a truly all-powerful site creation tool that pushes the whole web design and development industry forward!

In the last beta test, I learned that they were probably working on it until it met their requirements. The good thing is, so they're probably working on it, the "bad," as always, it's a matter of time at Elementor ...

A quick reminder too @arielk and @shilo-ey

One more "note" regarding custom Post types and Meta fields:

  • The only reason WordPress doesn't have these features in the admin by default, is because the whole ecosystem was build around themes. And themes would only work with predefined post types, so WordPress only has Posts and Pages by default.

  • But in the age of page builders, this restriction to Posts and Pages should be gone long time ago. We don't need to worry about themes anymore. We can design our templates for any content structure.

  • If you were building a page builder from the ground up, Post types and Meta fields would be one of the first things you would do.

  • For some reason, current WordPress page builders are completely missing the point in this regard. Their approach looks like this: "Well, WordPress has Posts and Pages by default, so let's stick with that. Custom Post types and Meta fields are considered advanced functionality in WordPress, so let's not worry about that, people can use other plugins for that."

  • Building websites on WordPress was always a bit hacky, because by default you never had control of the most important and fundamental thing -> content structure.

  • Page builders unlocked the Holy Grail -> Ability to design templates for any content -> Ability to control the content structure. So finally, you would think, we could design our own content structure. (The thing every web design process starts with.) But no, they don't even realize they unlocked the Holy Grail and instead are focusing on superficial stuff. Post types and Meta fileds interface is nowhere to be seen.

  • My point is, the ability to control the content structure is so fundamental, this should be there since the 2.0 version, or so. Not 4.0 or 5.0, or whenever you're planning this "advanced" feature.

  • It's not advanced feature, it's a basic control of the content structure. That control was not possible in the "Theme world". But is finally possible in the "Page builder world". But the page builder authors don't seem to realize what they've unlocked.

@MichaelDarko I like it. Essentially this sounds like a built-in CPT manager vs using 3rd party plugins or PHP in one's theme to create custom post types, meta boxes/fields etc. and then go tick those little boxes in Elementor Settings to allow the new CPTs, but rather presented in the admin UI as a Site Structure Builder very much like the Elementor Pro Theme Builder or even within that same UI.

That'd be very useful and I don't think I'd consider it bloat because it adds no cost to the front end load in and of itself and it is definitely a relatable feature on the back end that I think many more would use if they had it delivered in a clean intuitive way.

@pingram3541

Exactly. WordPress has a functionality to create new Post types, but it's "hidden", because there is no way for regular users to design templates for new post types. Plugins can build interface around it and many have. You would think page builders would be absolutely all over this, because that's where any website building starts - setting up the content structure.

Page builders gave us a way to design templates for anything, but they forgot to give us an interface to create Post types an Meta fields.

So now we have page builders that can design "anything", but by default, the only content type we have is Posts (basically articles). How is that "page building" if the only available content type is "article"? What about the milion other content types you might need?

They need to stop thinking about how it was done in WordPress in the past and look at it through first principles.

For example, Webflow is a page builder built from the ground-up. They have a great content management interface - basically UI for Post types and Meta fields. Imagine if they told you: "We have a great CMS but you can only create articles in it. For anything else, you have to use third party plugins." That would make no sense.

And that's essentially how Elementor works. What's the point of designing a website, if we can't design the content structure in the first place?

I hope they get it, but I'm a bit afraid they'll give us a Posts loop template designer but no interface to create Post types and Meta fields, so we will still have to use other plugins for that.

It just seems baffling that the functionality for post types is in the WordPress core and page builders are not using it. It's not like there is something in WordPress that would limit this. It's all there for page builders to harness and build a nice interface around it to give us the fundamental ability to design content structure.

@MichaelDarko
No need for an extension to create post types, I put my snippets in the functions.php file of my child themes, light and powerful.

hmmm - an elementor integration for cpts? really?

IHMO _really_ neighter needed nor wished.

completely agree with @momo-fr - registering them ourselves would be _is_ much more lightweight.

but we should be able to handle them completely via elementor - loop item design included. thats what it is all about.

Registering this through code might be ok for you, but most people won't do that. Most people won't even attempt to build more complex websites because it feels complicated. And if they do, in most cases, they use CPT interface and ACF plugins anyway. Setting up content structre (Post types and Meta fields) through code is not a user friendly solution. People will use plugins for that anyway, the question is, will they have to use mutiple plugins or will there be one integrated solution.

I'm pretty sure this is inevitable. Webflow withouth its dynamic cotnent UI would lose half of it's value. And guys at Crocoblock seem to be making a killing with JetEngine. It will come. There's too much value in dynamic websites and Elementor won't leave this value to other plugins.

@MichaelDarko - i see your point.
but i dont see elementor fighting this values nearly anywhere. and at least not in any near future. they already leave pretty much to third party where they could have been in the game since... well - years?

completely agree regarding crocoblock and alike - but my personal experience with these solutions is that they usually slow down things more than manual code registrations.
and whats wrong with building cpts and custom fields via plugin, paste the code in child afterwards and delete them?

personally i would be glad to have complete control over templates and archive grids etc. in elementor itself in a convenient and proper way - and in a near future that can be seen.
everything else might come afterwards in addition.

but at that point they will have to solve other things like activating only needed or wanted widgets and functionalities and polishing existing widgets a bit more... e.g. post widget filtering, custom breakpoints, better site settings structure and so on.

a lot to be solved. many room for improvements everywhere.

first things first: loop item template and grid designer. afterwards me might look further on - dont overcharge them at this point where 'pure basics' still missing :)

+1 Great opportunity!

+1 Still waiting for this...

This option should be a must. The actual posts widget is VERY limited. It should be customizable.

+1 & Pro - would love to see custom fields in the posts widget

???
faith no more. taking too long.

It would be nice to have the option to choose that the item can only be seen by logged in users!

@arielk @shilo-ey @KingYes
How on earth can something like this take so damn long? Other paid Elementor add-ons have already successfully included this for a long time. Why doesn't Elementor itself implement this?
Sorry, but do you want to make your customers happy at all? THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FUNCTION ABOUT A DYNAMIC WEBSITE!

On top of that Elementor is developing NEW products - before they even finished this one! This should be illegal! We paid for this expecting it to be finished in a reasonable timeframe!

What new products do you mean?

I hope you're being sarcastic. They never guaranteed for this feature to be finished, did they?

Elementor Cloud is in Beta. Of course, I understand they never guaranteed it - but who would have expected this to take this long? If I knew it was going to take this long I would have switched to Beaver Builder long ago. And YES - when so many people are asking for something that completes the product, they should NOT be starting a new project. OK, maybe calling it criminal was an exaggeration but I was mad... I apologize for that.

Yes, well, I see the Elementor Cloud separately from these functions from Elementor itself. I think it's good that Elementor is developing and breaking new ground or trying it out. The market does not stand still and for the future it makes sense to have your own systems.

But to get back to the actual topic: If so many want it, currently in second place of the most wanted functions here on Github. It's just a shame and unused potential that Elementor is wasting here. It could be so easy!

And why go to a different platform for this one feature? There are plugins for Element or that enable custom loops and archives.
