Electricitymap-contrib: Add Kosovo

Created on 20 Jun 2018  路  5Comments  路  Source: tmrowco/electricitymap-contrib

http://www.kostt.com/website/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=841&lang=en shows load and generation but not sources. However according to https://www.wikizero.com/en/Electrical_energy_in_Kosovo it is 97% coal. So would it be possible to add Kosovo?

Hi @jzlcdh ! :)

I had also seen the website of Kosovo's TSO a while ago but discarded the idea of using this data. In general, it's a bit complicated due to the relationship of Serbia and Kosovo.
Electricitywise, Kosovo A and Kosovo B with around 600 MW each are located in Kosovo and are the main power plants for generation in this area. Not sure if both are operating, I remember something about an accident/outage or so in one of them.

I guess, data for these are contained in the reported data on ENTSO-E for Serbia+Kosovo as a whole already (I'm not 100% sure, though!). But as we lack the "national" exchange between Serbia itself (mainand, without Kosovo) and Republic of Kosovo and this data doesn't seem to be anywhere yet, I'd say there is no realistic chance of adding Kosovo as seperate area at the moment.

Power lines from Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia are leading to and through Kosovo north to Serbia, so there also are probably a lot of transit flows there.

Let's keep this source in mind, maybe some more data will be added in the future.

By the way: when posting links, either just copy and paste them, or use the space between the brackets like this:
your text for the link...

Else these links won't lead anywhere (404) ;-)

Thanks for quick reply. Yes it seems the EU is putting pressure on Serbia to recognize Kosovo, so we will see how that plays out. And once the World Bank and EU have decided how to help fund Kosovo electricity generation the energy ministry will maybe figure out how to proceed and this article on Kosovo and coal will likely be updated so perhaps this issue can be reconsidered in a few months time.

Thank you for the information! I will close this issue for the time being to avoid accumulating open issues that we cannot resolve. Please reopen when more data becomes available!

I've found production data for Kosovo that is updated hourly.

They have also some extra data under "Transparenca" which doesn't work.

Reopening here as discussed. Note copied from #2121: "but you should check if the coal plants are already included in Serbia's published data or not."
