Dash-to-panel: Dynamic Rows (Feature Request)

Created on 23 Oct 2017  路  6Comments  路  Source: home-sweet-gnome/dash-to-panel

If you are taking feature requests... dynamic rows would be great.

Using windows as an example, it allows an arbitrary height/rows (sure this is limited), but it keeps the single applications menu to the left, application launcher/preview in the middle stacked (multiple rows with preview), and then stacks other information to the right (calendar, connectivity, etc) to the right. I don't know if people find this blasphemous, but I find it useful.

If someone wants to implement this, I would be ok to merge it, but something will need to be figure out with regard to the window previews (I don't think gnome will draw a popup over the panel). Though, I wonder if #117 isn't a more graceful solution to running out of screen real estate?

Any progress on this? I'm an andvanced user with a three row taskbar on Windows 10 with multiple programs pinned on it. And I also disabled grouping since it's more hard to find a single window for me when e.g. multiple Firefox windows were open.

I'd like to switch to Ubuntu as main system, but this is currently a blocker for me... Would be cool to have this also on Linux!

Hello,
yes this is my request. It will help very much.
The settings of icons have a lot of possibilitites but you cannot change the size of icon itself. The space is still the same as a square as "charlesg99" said. So this feature will very much help to do it.

It is a pity that the solution that was already done in #479 from user "KRtekTM" was not developed more. It looks that part of the solution was done by him.

Is there any progress of this?

My solution work only for left or right side panel:
Just now I have found the only solution. It measn to set the grouping. Since this will show the names it will also take less space vertically. So when I have the panel on the left the icons with names takes less space than if you have shown only icons. Which means the icon square takes much more space.

It is still the one column solution but it help to my problem when I have left panel.

Thanks

Here is my dash panel. When I set up grouping then I can have small icons by setting the high of panel in the second tab and then in the behaviour tab (third) is the setting for grouping. Turn it on and go to detail settings. There is option "Max hide of title of application". I set up it higher then the panel high.
Then the panel looks like the attachment.

I don't see a reason to close this issue. It has been 4 years now and sadly there is still no solution avaliable...
