Dropping small arms ammunition (pistol, rifle) presents minimal danger, at most the casing ruptures and a small amount of fragments fly in random directions.
Burning a large pile of small arms ammunition is quite dangerous, sending large quantities of fragments in all directions.
Start a fire.
Drop a big pile of ammunition into it.
Take damage.
I've found that setting fire to a body with any amount of ammo on it pretty much instant death.
Can confirm. It doesn't have to be a large pile of ammunition, either. A handful of low-caliber bullets is enough to - with enough bad luck in damage placement - instantly kill even somewhat armored character.
Yep, cooking off small arms ammunition isn't exactly safe, but it's not hugely dangerous either.
This video is well worth watching: https://youtu.be/3SlOXowwC4c (At several points firefighters stand quite close to fires full of ammo, and everything that hits them just bounces off their turnout gear)
Realistically each round in a fire should probably have a small random chance for as long as it stays in the fire of firing off in a random directly at a very low power (low damage and range).
That confirms my understanding; it's nice to see some controlled testing that confirms it.
After a quick skim through the video, I'm tempted to just remove the fragment effect from small arms entirely.
The level of danger presented seems even lower than I expected.
Marking as easy since you just need to dismantle the ammo explosion feature to adress the issue.
