Calendar: Discoverability of upper-left date-picker

Created on 3 Aug 2018  ·  6Comments  ·  Source: nextcloud/calendar

Currently there's are only left/right buttons to either move a day, a week or a month forward or backward.
A little calendar on the sidebar would increase the navigation through the calendar and its overall view a lot.

Here's a simple mockup:

The Datepicker should allow navigating through years (rel.: https://github.com/nextcloud/calendar/issues/703)

Just click August 2018 😉

If you have any suggestion how to improve discoverability I'd be happy to discuss that :)

Just click August 2018 wink

Oh, that is new to me :-)

The easiest way to improve discoverability would be to show it always by default, unless there are strong arguments against it.

But considering the case you would show it by default, it would give you the opportunity to improve the navigation even more:

By clicking on "August 2018" you could show all twelve months from 2018
Clicking then on "2018" you could show the past and upcoming years.

That way you could really rush through your calendar and I don't know how you would do that currently.

reopened, so we can discuss improving the discoverability

In Calendar 2.0 it will look like a proper button to show that you can click it.
