Browser-laptop: Private Tab Pinning

Created on 11 May 2017  路  3Comments  路  Source: brave/browser-laptop

I'm running Brave on Windows, version af7ef42ad622f899312a38bdd0e2138154393627. It was somewhat of a surprise to me that I can't pin private tabs, but since pinned tabs are shared between every window (another feature I dislike), it kind of makes sense.

However (this is the bug), if you drag a tab from the right into a group of pinned tabs on the left, it becomes pinned. This seems unexpected / inconsistent. Curious about what you guys think.

I was actually the Twitter plus one one there, but now that I'm signed in again, I'll add a note. I think I'll have another issue coming up with pinned tabs in the next couple days (once I feel not lazy). I understand the concern about pinning a tab and needing to clear it with each session, but I think it may be a valid case -- some of my pinned tabs are "feed" sort of pages that I'm not always signed into, but would prefer to be in a private tab for anyway. I'd like it to open to that tab, and am ok with the session being killed between launches.

Perhaps this is a separate issue as well, but can pinned tabs not be auto opened on every window? A lot of times I'll have sets of pins per windows, one perhaps being my work items (issues, build server, deployment as shown above) and another one with e.g. social items like email and music. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this, and I don't really like getting the same tab set on every new window - it rarely makes sense for the pins to be in more than one window at a time.

@shortstuffsushi this is something we'll definitely want to fix! 馃槃

For privacy reasons, data in private tabs is cleared when tab is closed or the browser is closed. If we implemented this, we'd want to treat the private pinned tabs the same way (cc: @bbondy)

You are right- multiple private tabs share a session. We do have an issue for changing that if you wanted to give it a +1

Please do this. I have to maintain a few different gmail accounts concurrently and it'd be massively helpful to be able to pin these tabs
