Brave-browser: Can't open rewards settings - "Wallet creation failed" error

Description

When i try to reach Brave Rewards settings both with url brave://rewards/ (chrome://rewards/) or with "Rewards Settings" button in popup, it shows the following error:

Wallet creation failed
Please check your Internet connection.

(See screenshot)

Sure i have my Internet connection working and very stable.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Go to brave://rewards/ or chrome://rewards/
  2. Click "Yes I'm in!" or "Yes I'm Ready" button.
  3. Get the error "Wallet creation failed. Please check your Internet connection".

Actual result:

Brave Rewards Setting is not opened, i got error that Wallet creation failed.

Expected result:

Brave Rewards Settings page should be opened.

Reproduces how often:

100% of time

Brave version (brave://version info)

Brave | 0.58.21 Chromium: 71.0.3578.98 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Reproducible on current release:

  • Does it reproduce on brave-browser dev/beta builds?

Don't know, I always use stable current releases only.

Website problems only:

  • Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Shields?

I can't disable Brave Shield at this page.

  • Is the issue reproducible on the latest version of Chrome?

No, because it has not Brave Rewards.

@LaurenWags I can see below when I click logo.
When I click add fund/or settings link in this popup, I can see error message described above.
Also, it displays empty white popup when I click Send a tip.. link. Then that web page is blocked. I can't do anything in more. I had to close tab.

I am having the same problem. Running beta, from an upgrade. I just tried the same from dev build and it worked, and the wallet (whatever that is) is now also there for the beta build.

Upgrade from older version

Yes, I have this too. On a fresh re-install.
How do we connect our Brave accounts for my laptop, desktop and iphone? I feel like this should be more thought out.

Over a month and no update on this error? The newest update did nothing to fix it. Tried a clean re-install and the problem persists. I wonder how many people download Brave for the first time, hit this error, and just go back to their old browser.

@NejcZdovc is there any information that would be helpful that folks can provide?

Even though I have this issue, it seems that the learn more tab opens the rewards center. Still, it would be nice to have this fixed. Also, it seems that each Brave install creates its own wallet. Ie iMac has one, laptop has one and iphone has a different one. And these would be "combinable" in the future. I can't help but see this as a way to have some coins get dropped along the way.

Has this been resolved?

The problem with the Try Again button seems fixed in 0.62.x (currently beta). The problem with the Rewards panel error seems fixed in 0.64.x (currently nightly).

No not yet to my knowledge. Looks like they are starting the ads though.
They can be turned on

I'm having this problem. I did a fresh installation. Version 0.63.55 Chromium: 74.0.3729.131 (Official Build) (64-bit)

@etrokal Can you please check now?

I was able to generate it after closing Visual Studio Code. Maybe having other instances of Chromium/Electron interfere with the process somehow? Restarting Brave did nothing while VSCode was open. After the wallet was generated, everything started working fine.

Same issue still. Even after restarting MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 I still get this message on Brave
Version 0.66.101 Chromium: 75.0.3770.142 (Official Build) (64-bit). Direct connection to internet. Also changed DNS to be sure and tried with direct mobile connection too.
