Blokada: I want automatic start/top based on time of day or specific wifi connection

Created on 13 Oct 2018  路  13Comments  路  Source: blokadaorg/blokada

Hi,

I would like to start by saying a big thanks for making this great app possible.

I would very much appreciate if we could start/stop the app based on the time of day

ex: start app at 8:00 and stop at 18:00.

OR

start the app when specific wifi connection is detected.

ex: wifi connection "work" detected then start app, wifi connection "home" detected then stop app.

Maybe this is not possible or you have no plans of ever implementing such thing but it would be an awesome feature. Using apps like ifttt don't cut it as many of them don't respect your privacy.

Thanks

I think the goal can be fulfilled if Blokada is integrated with Tasker, as requested here: #56

I would like to understand this request a bit. Why would you like to shut down Blokada at a given time and start again later the day, or vice versa. You would like to see ads in a timeframe, but not after that? Plus it's contraproductive because when Blokada doesn't run, the apps download the ads, and later, when Blokada is started, they show the ads from the cache.

Hi rpeter85

thanks for taking the time to get back to me... perhaps this feature would be useless for most people and would be a waste of your time but DNS based adblockers cannot be used with VPNs simultaneously.

At home, I use pihole to block ads on a bigger scale 2m hosts vs ~200k on my phone.

My idea is to be able to schedule blokada to start in the morning at 7PM and stop at 6PM when I get home

"the apps download the ads, and later, when Blokada is started, they show the ads from the cache." This hasn't been my experience, as soon as I load the app and refresh the app the ads are gone

Again, if you feel that the feature would not put to good use then dismiss my request :)

Have a nice day

Not a bad idea, but I don't think most of us would use it. Maybe I'm wrong. Plus, it's not hard to do just that yourself

I don't want to use an additional app to enable that feature.

I've noticed some syncing issues when blokada is running.

Playstore apps would list updates but no update the apps itself. Google photos won't backup automatically, SwiftKey sync fails.

I don't want to put those apps in whitelist since I don't want to disable blokada during my day usage.

But for me during the night when my phone is charing and wifi is connected I would like to all those sync happens. This feature would allow this.

@fmpallini I think you commented the wrong issue. Please check the FAQs and other existing issues.

I think a trusted/untrusted network feature is a welcome addition to Blokada. By default all networks are 'untrusted', but when connected to a trusted network, Blokada is not active. Services like Windscribe VPN have implemented this nicely and might be used as a reference.

In 4.3 you'll be able to do some basic version of this using Tasker. At least it's a first step. A more advanced functionality will have to wait a bit more.

Tasker is no option for me.

@lordyavin and... Why?

  • to complicated (it should be a one switch option in blokada)
  • tasker waists battery
  • tasker is complicated to setup
  • not a real argument but tasker is an app one have to pay for, right?
