Azure-docs: Enable refresh from Power BI service

Created on 28 Sep 2018  ·  15Comments  ·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

This works great on Desktop. However.....We need a solution that allows API authentication when you publish the report up to the Power BI Service. I have tried all sorts of authentications and cannot get this to work. I know this has been voted in Power BI suggestions to allow users to schedule refresh the reports/dashboards.

Error:
Expression.Error: The 'Authorization' header is only supported when connecting anonymously.

Please assign to @ashmaka

@Mike-Ubezzi-MSFT the engineering team has responded that this is an issue for the PowerBI team not the Text Analytics team. Please reassign to the appropriate contact for PowerBI. Thank you.

@Mike-Ubezzi-MSFT please assign to the appropriate PowerBI resource to respond to this product request.

@SarinaJoan Hi Sarina, can you please check this issue? If necessary, I can help to move it into PowerBI repo. Please tell me if anything I can help.

@YutongTie-MSFT this issue is not a Cognitive Services issue. This is a PowerBI issue. Please move it to their repo. Thank you.

Any update on this?
How can we refresh data in Power BI Service?

@mohsena67 you should open this issue in the PowerBI repo.

Actually I was able to resolve it. I made the permission level of the cognitive services data source to anonymous and “public” in power BI service and permission level of other sources which were used to combine with the cognitive services applications to public too. Also I ticked the checkbox for skipping tests and now I can refresh my cognitive services sources in power BI service without any problem.

@BiGuRuNot Thank you for sharing you solution. I will put a small notice for customers if applicable.

Could you please elaborate more on the specifics. It still wont work for me. The whole point of Cognitive Services API is to use it in PowerBI web not in desktop mode.

Radicalhqer,
Yes but you need to build your reports in Power BI Desktop first then you publish it to the web / Power BI Service. Update permission levels of all tables connected to the API cognitive service function/table, to “public”. First do this in the Desktop, then once published you can do this in the Web / Power BI Service ...

Yes, I had built it on PBI desktop and yes, I have set it up as "Anonymous" and "Public".

If you give me more info, I can help you. Does it work in Power BI Desktop when you make all the data sources settings to public.
