Created on 17 Jul 2018  Â·  7Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

Hi, url https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-vms-first-look-arm discusses how to backup VMs in Azure,

Regarding some workloads deployed in VM scale sets, as I know , ASR don't support to relicate it yet. Is it possible to use backup services ( not limite to take snapshot from each VMSS instances )

Many thanks !

@cloudmelon You could use the backup functionality offered to backup multiple vms as mentioned here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/tutorial-backup-vm-at-scale , it doesn't offer to do it by scale set, but rather choosing each VM needed to be backed up. let me know if this helps.

Hi @Adam-Smith-MSFT thanks for your answer. Actually it is possible to backup single or multiple VMs by using Azure backup ( selecting multiple VM as backup item ) , but VMSS is a VM pool ( which is recognized as VirtualMachineScaleSets resource type ( different from Virtual machine ), no I didn't find any way to backup it by using backup service ( even though I was trying to connect a single instance in VMSS and install backup agent ... ) , do you have any other idea ? ( except take snapshot ). Many thanks :)

Hi Melony, :) I don't think the option for VMSS is supported yet, I'd definitely recommend leaving feedback on here: https://feedback.azure.com/forums/258995-azure-backup-and-scdpm , all topics are viewed directly by the service team, and they'd provide you with 100% accurate answer for this particular feature :)

Hi @Adam-Smith-MSFT thank you very much for the link. I will address my request to them. Have a great day and thanks for your great assistance :)

Thanks @cloudmelon :) We will now proceed to close this thread. If there are further questions regarding this matter, please reopen it and we will gladly continue the discussion.

Hi all,

We can use Availability Zone for VMSS, but if the region doesn't support Availability Zone for VMSS how to do DR for Virtual Machine Scale Set?

Please help me on this query.

Thanks,
Sumanth
